****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

Shopto keep sending me their spam email, at least this time it came in handy.

Promotional preorder price of £199.99.

@K1LLSWITCH Not trolling, just concerned whenever I see health warnings, being a health and safety officer an all :p

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH...

Hurry up and put more pics up in the house building thread, I wanna see all the toys!!! :D

Not sure about actual hardware but by the way you worded your post I assume you already know they take the money straight away when you pre-order software from them

I know thehut does but I didn't really know if Shopto does, seems it doesn't from what I've read.

I've just had a look at shopto's "Guide to pre-ordering" bu it doesn't make much sense. I can't really tell whether I can pre-order now but only pay when it's in stock or when it's delivered. Might sign up tomorrow and see how I get on.

Just ordered a black 3DS, Pokemon Black and SSFIV from that site von.

I have ordered from them a lot and they take the money a few days before release.

I've used them a few times for preordered games, and they've only taken money at dispatch.

Shopto take monies when shipped, put my pre order with them, my son chose the blue one and the resi games, he doesn't seem at all interested in the remake of games like zelda and paper mario as he has played them to death.

Like the look of kid icarus and thor and of course MGSSE.

I'll be putting together an order later. Gonna go for the console plus one game. What do people recommend if I'm only going for one for the time being? Quite tempted by Ocarina as have never played beyond the first dungeon, much to my shame...

EDIT: Just noticed Zelda isn't a launch title. Rubbish.

Don't think I want to risk my early Amazon order after reading shop.to's disclaimer;

As this is the hottest release of the year we are still awaiting information from Nintendo regarding stock allocations.

Until we receive this information we cannot guarantee any delivery dates for your preorder. As soon as we receive information you will be notified by email.

Why don't you just wait until it's out and then go and have a play in GAME or HMV or something and then decide?

Oh absolutely. Never say never, but from what I have seen of the games, they're not really a massive departure from NDS games.

In fairness the videos of the 3DS games out thusfar have not been very clear, but you can make out that graphics wise this isnt a groundbreaking thing. In fairness perhaps this is because of the 3D function takes a lot of processing power as well.

Which brings me onto the 3D function. Obviously none of us have experienced this, and until we do, we cannot judge whether it will "enhance" our gaming experience, or whether its just a fad that we will "ooh" and "ahh" over for 5 minutes and then subsequently, turn down the 3D slider.

But if Nintendo's "mindset" in recent years is anything to go by, I'm hazzarding a guess that the 3D function is more of a "show off" feature rather than a practical feature which will enhance our gaming ability. i.e. similar to the Wii when it first came out.

Don't get me wrong. When I first heard the lineup titles such as Zelda, Pilot Wings, Starfox etc, I thought hell yes! All the old classics from N64 which I grew up with and love, being able to play them on a portable. Great!

But then I thought... £200... for what is effectively a portable console... to play games which are available on home consoles which I can play at a fraction of the cost at home... ok yes, its portable, you can play them on the move... but at a price of £200, for me personally, too much.

Now for people like Warbie, they will definitely have a use for it. But again, I maintain that the charge time is a bit of downer really. Im just curious what is the lifetime on the 3DS battery packs? If a kid plays it for an average of 6 hours a day, he's going to have to charge it around 1-2 times a day... (not considering the degradation in batterys performance over its lifetime).

It just means that you now have two things to charge nearly every day instead of one (Mobile and 3DS :))

But as I said earlier, never say never, I will definitely give the 3DS a go at the local GAME shop, but Im fairly confident that I will be waiting for it to come down in price probably a year or so after its release.

Also, I should add that graphics maketh a game not as we all know, but the tech behind the Gamecube (which the 3DS is supposedly almost mimicing) is now nearly a decade old
I guess what Im trying to say is that there is always a cost/value ratio to consider, and for me £200 is just too much.

Right, I've gone ahead and pre-ordered from ShopTo. I've gone for the black console and SSFIV. I was tempted by Ridge Racer, but given that I'll be buying MK3DS the next month, it didn't seem worthwhile.

Now to save up to actually pay for it...

Same as me, but I've ordered pokemon black for the DS too.
