The Nokia E71 thread

i don't think thats likely to happen soon, seeing as the phone is already much cheaper than it's competitors.

I can't decide whether to get an E71 or an E66. For someone who has never used a QWERTY keyboard on a phone before, is it easy to get used to typing on the E71? Is it practical to type on the E71 using only one hand? Also, is typing on a QWERTY as quick as it can be on a regular T9 keypad?

I love the design of both of them. I want the larger capacity battery of the E71 but then I don't know if typing on it will annoy me, coming from regular keypads. Similarly, could I just make do with the poorer battery performance of the E66? Hmm.

Any comments would be appreciated, esp. E71 users who were new to QWERTY and also those who have used both E71 and E66! Thanks :)

I upgraded in January to the E71 from the E65. I was having the same dilema you are having now. I am so glad I chose the E71, took a few days to adjust to the qwerty keboard but absolutely love it now. My new dilema now is when I come to upgrade again I hope there will something as good as/better than this to upgrade to with qwerty.

I know their aimed at totally separate markets, but I was wondering whether people would go for this or the N85? Unsure :(

...not sure whether I would like the qwerty keyboard or not.

I got my E71 this week, have gone from an iPhone 2G to an E71, wasn't sure about the keyboard at first but it soon grows on you. The E71 has really impressed me this week, the HSDPA support just blows the 2g Iphone GPRS speeds out of the water!!

I really like the E71, I have managed to just about find every app I had installed on the Iphone in symbian form that works on the E71.

I brought one of these babies on friday and i can not believe just how good it is. Fantastic phone the keyboard is a bit strange to dial numbers on but i'm sure i'll get use to it.

The one problem i do have is that i could connect to the net using the orange internet at first but all of a sudden tonight i can not. I have gon into the set up wizard and done the operators settings again but still no luck. Anyone have any idea's?

Had exactly the same problem with my w980 last night, but it seems to be working this morning.

Hey guys. It's upgrade time for me and the E71 looks like it does everything I want. Just a few questions I have though. I'm gonna be using the phone as an MP3 player, but I have no idea what the sound quality is like or the mp3 software itself. Also, can you change tracks with side buttons? (also, do you get headphones in the box?) Secondly, how good is the camera? I don't need it to be amazing but I'd like half decent images.
Lastly, How good is the internet browsing? The resolution isn't huge so it was just a concern I had really. How does it compare to the G1?
Cheers

You get headphones in the box, dunno how good they are I haven'y used them yet. Not sure on the changing tracks thing either.

Camera isn't bad at all to be honest. Clear enough in good light and the auto-focus helps.

Internet browsing is frankly superb with opera installed. I find navigating a doddle and use it throughout the day everyday.

Basically Opera fits the full web page to your screen and you use its zoom feature to zero in on the section you want. Sounds complicated but it works really well and is easy to use.

I'm thinking about getting the E71 as my next upgrade in a couple of days. I used to have the E61 a few years ago which I loved, is the E71 much better?

One question which I can't find the answer for, can I use the E71 to connect to my laptop using bluetooth so I can use the E71 as a modem and surf on the laptop?

Pc suite still has btooth and so does e71. I recall that the pc suite modem feature works regardless of how the phone is connecting to pc suite.

OK I just checked the pc suite help file:
With One Touch Access, you can establish network connections using packet data (in GPRS or 3G networks, depending on the phone and network capabilities). Connection can be established via cable, infrared, or Bluetooth wireless technology.

I've many times used "One Touch" via cable and works great (been too lazy to get a btooth adapter)

You also have the 2nd option of making your phone into a wifi spot, but it consumes a fair bit of power. JoikuSpot and WalkingHotspot do that for you.

Thanks, one last question. Would you guys recommended getting the E71 now, or waiting (how long?) for the E75?

The E71 is a very good phone and is available now, not keen on the e75 side sliding keyboard. Quite happy with the e71's qwerty keyboard it works well and phone does look business like.

Well if I were offered a free upgrade to the e75, I would not be like "yes please". I would not switch away from e71 easily. There would need to be something tremendously better about e75 that relates to my use. And I'd need to give a model of it a thorough going over.

E71 is a thin (10 mm) and solid phone. I use the qwerty a fair bit and like just having it there when I need it without fiddling (even considering that e75 has bigger keys).

In addition to it's features, the e71 is just a very comfortable phone for me.

thanks for the advice. I'm going to the t-mobile shop in town tomorrow to have a look at the e71.

t-mobile are offering the phone for free with a £31.50 per month contract which includes web'n'walk. good deal?

E71 avaliable on o2? I am ex staff so will be going on a friends and family deal but i can't see it on the o2 website :(
