The Nokia N80

I've got another S60 Third Edition phone, with the same CPU. I haven't noticed any serious slow-down (especially compared to my 7610!) and contacts takes a maximum of 2 seconds to open, if it's not already running. Even the reviews of the E61, etc. have commented on how much of an improvement in performance there's been.

Maybe there's just a few duff phones going around?

Could be mate but i cant be bothered to give nokia another try, this n80 has put me off them for life. Even though i was asked today by the place i got it from, to try another unit but in my line of work i cant afford to be messing about with this phone to see if it works efficiently or not.
So im back to my 6680, my W810i has been sent off for unlocking so will have to make do with the 6680. I just wish SE would hurry up and get the p990 out asap.

from reading around on esato, the talk seems to be that the p990i might have slipped to q3 as opposed to the scheduled q2 release. Still looks like it will be the best smartphone when it finally arrives

Why? What makes it better than the Vario 2 or the xda Exec (thats been out a while)? Or even the i-mate Jamin if your not after 3G.

It combines traditional phone functionality with a PDA.

You try walking along the high street texting with a Vario II or XDA Exec in one hand and see how easy it is. ;)

From what I've seen of the P990, and from past experience with the P-series, I would say that the P990 has the following advantages:

- A lot more useable as a phone
- Much easier to use one-handed
- Will have better call quality
- Greater stability
- Will come with a better web-browser (Opera 8)
- Has a vastly superior camera
- Will get more frequent software updates
- Will have better build quality
- iSync compatibility

Where it will lose out is obviously the amount of 3rd party software available for it.

But i would imagine that by the time the p990 is out there will be software that has been ported over to work on the p990...well i hope lol:p

Hmmm seems like the p990 also has force feedback in games lol :p...wow this phone just sounds better and better and unlike silly ole nokia they put at least 80mb of internal ram...so should be plenty fast i hope:p.

The thing is, I can't for the life of me believe that with just one program, the N80 has run out of memory. I opened numerous things on mine and it still worked very well. I think the out of memory message is a software bug.

It may very well be but going on past experiences with my 6680 which also has about 40mb internal memory..same as the n80...it also runs out of memory but the phone still works though albeit very slowly unless i kill apps off or re-start the phone.

My main and major gripe with the phone is that it was constantly crashing on me especially when i went to use the web browser or attempted to open the WLAN/Internet settings. Probably got a duff unit but im not willing to get another and see if it will be better. Problem is that there are too many niggles and quirks that i dont like with the phone...perhaps i could get used to it in time but generally the phone hasnt at all impressed me as much as i thought it would.

Oops :o thought it was 40mb...anyways still a tad faster than the n80 that i had though, at least the 6680 doesnt crash when im trying to browse on the internet lol:p or come up with any memory problems.

Had my N80 for nearly a week now, not had a single problem with it. never crashed while surfing the web, seems as fast as my MDA is thou a lot nicer looking and in some respects easyer to use.

I do kinda miss my little pointy pen thou.

I got my black N80 yesterday. I have had to charge it 3 times so far (in just over 24 hours) but that's because I've been messing around with it a lot (including a lot of Wifi use). The new Web application is great (the new Nokia browser) but it has some major problems. It often reports that it is out of memory, or simply closes down while in the middle of using it.

The build quality is generally good, although the battery cover on mine was quite loose - I fixed this by using some small bits of paper under the cover. The phone is definitely pretty chunky, especially when in the open position and you're using the keys just under the screen (which is the fattest part of the phone you'd ever be using). The camera, although the shots start to look a little flakey on your computer screen, look truly amazing on the phone's display. The gallery application is quite neat too with the way you scroll through all the photos in it.

Much prefer the black version.

Are O2 any good? Never been with them before thats all.

^^^ I was with o2 for a good 4 yrs and never had any major probs with them, other than their reception sucks around the docklands where i work lol:p.
Saying that though ive moved over to tmobile and their flext with web n walk, only thing is as much as i wanted to stay with o2 they couldnt even come close to what tmobile were offering me.

completely off topic, thanks for the o2 warning.
I work in docklands aswell :/

No probs, its a bit touch and go for me at times. I think its these tall buildings that are bouncing the signal off and sometimes i get excellent reception and sometimes i get nothing even though all reception bars on the phone are at full.

Swings and roundabouts. Was close to the Docklands recently (couple of hundred yards south) and my O2 was fine and the T-Mob people had to wave their phones about. Wouldnt be so bad, but they all work in the Docklands.

Its just those tall buildings. Always hit and miss.
