In what way are they overrated? I appreciate that they may not be to your taste, and Brewdog fans are quite odd and very fanboyish. But I'd hardly say that the beers are "overrated tosh".

Plus, there are vast differences between what Brewdog make and what real ale is.

I've tried brew dog stuff since it came on to the scene with the TNP, but what really struck me was when I went to the pub on a regular basis (it is the local next to my work) and reading the tosh they publish on a daily basis and meeting their regular customer base.

My taste in beers are as varied as they come but I can not stand the vast majority of stuff they pump out. Its like they are trying to make beer/ale trendy by sticking weird names on it and pimping it out to the masses, now forgive me if you are taking offence to this but just read the blurb for their tokyo beer.

Now if that isn't pretentious then I don't know what is and I know that they aren't strictly real ale but "craft beers" but if you listen to the people in there you will understand what I mean, might just be the one in Aberdeen as I haven't ventured into the ones around Scotland as like I said the beer doesn't interest me as much as say some where selling continental beers (both lagers, wheat and trappist beer).

So lolkahn me all you want but trust me when I say I know a fair bit about alcohol, enough to put most people to shame from working ale bars to trendy bars to generally liking a drink and having a good sense of adventure.

But I stand by my opinion of brew dog plop.

/edit :- If you are looking for a decent craft beer look for innis and gunn (not the normal/blonde you get in the supermarkets) but more the rum, whisky , irish whisky etc.

The marketing etc is in your face but the quality of the product is good. The Tesco Double IPA is made by them and its a knockout IPA. Innis and Gunn is different but they are a bit of a one trick pony in that's all they produce (spirit cask based beer). Their gear is above average but not outstanding.

Just tried a Worthingtons (yes, Worthingtons) White Shield. 5.6% bottle conditioned IPA. Cant knock it.

I know more about the company that you do.

I agree that they have a odd core set of fans who are will not hear a bad word said about the company and I'm well and truly not in there.

Just because you don't like it does not mean that it's over rated - Infact, I'm not sure how many awards they've actually won for their beers. They've won a huge amount for the company though.

The marketing is again different. I agree that it can come across as extremely pretentious though I'm not sure if that is Martin's or James' intention. I think it's more than likely they are demonstrating that beer can be something more than just the "muck" (their words) that the big brewers come out with.

I have no issue with people disliking the beers, and the company (I'm not a fan of the company in the slightest but for quite different reasons). However, I think it's wrong for you to suggest the beers are overrated and those who drink them are wannabe real ale drinkers.

I'm also not entirely sure that I'd want to label I&G as a craft brewery due to their links with Belhaven. But that being said, some of their stuff is good some isn't. I'm not a huge fan of whisky/bourbon casked aged beers.
 
Wychwood wychcraft.

Light colored light flavored blonde beer with 'thrice hopped' as the tag on the bottle and to be fair it is a little bit of a let down, if it wasn't advertised thrice hopped then i would not have any disappointment but alas it is, which is unfair as it is a very nice easy summer beer that just doesnt deliver the promise.

sessionable but not hoppy contrary to the label.
