The **Now Eating** Thread

No pic but fish fingers, green beans and spinach. With a cup of twinings breakfast tea.

Kidneys are not in best shape, doc said need more water and green leafy veg, hence the lunch.

Was in Glasgow today for a little day out. I went for lunch at a place located in a catacomb underneath Glasgow Central station called Alston Bar & Beef. I only found out about it on Twitter by chance. I've been to Central station countless times and I was oblivious to the fact this place was underneath it! Quite a decent sized place and friendly staff. Even has free Wi-Fi, which is handy considering its underground and you cant get a decent signal otherwise.

For starter I had tweed valley brisket and smoked cheddar croquettes with tomato and chilli chutney. Very tasty start to the meal :)

For my main I had the fillet steak sandwich with mustard mayo, served with chips. its also meant to have beef-dripping fried onions on it, but I can't stand onions, so I had it without those. This was really REALLY good! :D

For dessert I had chocolate, almond & sea salt brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. So tasty! With this I got a glass of Sauternes dessert wine. Golden coloured and very sweet. It has a nice flavour of honey. I'm very tempted to buy a bottle of this for the house, though it is quite an expensive wine.

By ordering off the set menu I got 3 courses for £16 and the wine was £8. Absolutely amazing value for money considering how good the food was :)

oh man, those croquettes. Frozen supermarket ones are inedible. Decent homemade or restaurant ones are to die for. They certainly look like the latter.

Nice. Do they do flights between Glasgow and London? I might need to consider that when I go on holiday next year.

No idea, but you have to time your flight to the meal. For example, if you are flying at 7am, they are not going to serve you lunch as I did with mine at about 12pm. Also, if your flight is like an hour, there really isn't enough time for them to serve everyone and then remove all the trays in time at the right altitude.
