**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

Preview driver 590.26 allows users to enable Smooth Motion on their RTX 40-series GPU:
So I just enable this as a global setting and get another form of frame generation that doesn't need the game to have it built in?

Can I do this without having to have the optional app? As a matter of principle, I really don't like things that manditory report what I'm doing in order to use it.

Which is the most stable least bad recent driver for 5090? I'm on 576.52 but there are regular weird black screens/desktop icons fluctuating between one drive and desktop and black backgrounds for Windows 11 desktop. It's not catastrophic but it is super annoying.

I honestly had no issues with the latest driver on my 5090, 576.88

I haven't had anything like that on any of the drivers for my 4070 since release, but I'm guessing this is a 5XXX series specific driver issue?

Thanks I've done a clean install of 576.88 and wish me luck. Things have just been a bit wobbly on occasion since 576.52 but looking good so far (It's been minutes I know but the problem/s were really getting my goat.

Yep my 4090 was super happy but my 5090 is a sensitive soul and has been gaslit by Nvidia.

NVIDIA 590.26 preview drivers

Would be interesting to see if there's a genuine performance difference between stock Nvidia drivers and this "Exostenza" version.

Not gonna bother trying smooth motion, no interest and needs nvapp so... yeah but no.

I've only just got around to testing Nvidia smooth motion a bit recently. Let's just says it's odd and a mixed bag...

First game I tried was expedition 33 as it has no form of built in 'proper' frame gen. SM 'works', and the good points are the performance increase is huge and there's very little artefacting and input lag. But, and it's a massive mamma big but, the whole image flickers and is slightly dimmed - exactly like black frame insertion is on older LG OLED TVs. It's therefore unusable for me and just plain weird.

Second game I tried was TLOU2 simply as it's one I'm playing currently (trying to put aside the awful subversive messaging in it, as its a great actual video game). This also 'works' and it has no black frame insertion weirdness at all. But the performance increase is very odd in this game. Rather than maxing out my fps to 120, it increased fps only a bit, but reduced my GPU usage to ~65% instead of 99%. It also had quite nasty artefacting.

So I'm not inspired to do much more testing to be honest. I see very few people talking about the problems of smooth motion, so I can only assume no one is bloody using it? Also - the latest version of Lossless Scaling frame gen seems better too.
