Show of hands please for a Kent OCUK Meet

The OcUK Kent Meet 2005
Saturday 12th March 2005
1pm Onwards
Maidstone, Kent

Due to popular demand from people in London and the South East, an oppertunity for you to meet fellow OcUK'ers has been arranged.

The schedule for the day is as follows

1pm onwards - Meet at the White Rabbit Public House, Maidstone. Drinks, lunch and socialising (get to know your fellow OcUK'ers)
3.30pm ish - Bowling at AMF Bowling Maidstone
6 or 7pm ish - Food at a local establishment
Evening - Drinking and more socialising

For those traveling from afar there are a number of places to stay, many people are already booked into The White Rabbit pub, however other establishments are mentioned (and hyperlinked to) in the following thread. A small 'quiet' gathering will be organised on the Friday night for those who wish to attend. This will take place at the White Rabbit so anyone who arrives late can join us there up to closing time.

There can also be a meeting for breakfast and mass purchasing of AlkaSeltzer on the Sunday.

(This is an over 18s meet for the usual reasons of safety and the duty of responsibility which would be placed on those attending to look after minors.) We MAY be willing to accept 2 or 3 16/17 year olds for JUST the bowling but please ask first, and note that NONE of us will buy drinks for you.

There is a deposit payable for the bowling which I will put up, once I know how many people are coming, please only add yourself to the list once you can confirm you will definately attend, so I don't end up out of pocket! Price for the bowling will be around £15 for 3 games including shoe hire

If you have any questions about room sharing or hitching a lift with an attendee, please feel free to post them here or you can contact me directly.

Look forward to meeting you

My initial thoughts were for just an overnighter but if there is more interest from those around the country I will have a bit of a rethink.

One of the issues with Kent is there isn't that much to do :( Most of the good stuff in in London. That said we could do a friday evening in Kent with the drinking eating and Travelodge type accomodation that that offers and maybe spend the next day in London (an hour or less on the train), coming back in the evening finish the mayham back in Kent?

When were you thinking of holding it MB?

Maybe I should have thought this through more before I started posting about it :D

In these initial stages I am willing to take ideas on timing, especially as to whether people feel it should be before or after Alton Towers, which means either March or the summer really. I expect these things don't work too well if they are too close together?

Looks like early march is popular - well see what MB says and see what he has in mind :)

OK, we have early March maybe Sat 12th?

Heres the kicker though, which is slightly embassing :o

When I posted this I thought it would be people from the local area, who would showup for the evening and then bugger off the next day :D

I never thought it would be people from all over, and as I said earlier there isn't really that much to do here, Maidstone (near me) is a bit void of fun Saturday activities, the town will be fine for pubs/ clubs/ food but what we could do on the Saturday I have no idea :D

Any suggestions?

Decorative ? LOL !

I do enjoy bowling but my nails don't ! :p

I believe they have some special ramps for err, 'special people' where you can pick the ball up and roll it down the ramp rather than bowl it using the finger holes, would that help? Maybe we can book one for you?

Cool, together we will provide 'comedy value', the slapstick Little and Large of OCUK :D

Anyway, any word on location? Somewhere with a train station might be good :)

Maidstone, main train line to London. Bowling, a few decent pubs, not a bad town.

Is it Maidstone that has that kinda wild west looking club/restaurant next to the bowling alley?

Nope, we have a Somerfield, a car park and a Bang and Olfson shop next to the bowling alley. Actually there was mini bowling alley in a sports bar next to Jumping Jaks (bleugh!) so you might be in the right area, however this is proper bowling not mini bowling :)

Are people thinking of staying the evening nearby?

We have a Travel Inn (Sandling) and a hotel called The Village also in Sandling which are about a mile outside the town, there are other place also (not sure if any have waterbeds though).

Thanks for the pruning earlier, it puts this thread back on track :) .

Could a passing don please change the name of the thread to

**The OcUK Kent bash 12th March 2005 - Get the details and put your names in here**

That will make things a bit more solid rather than just taking a straw poll on those who are interested.

Thanks
