*** The OcUK Ultima 10.1 Thread ***

Purchased one for the GF last weekend installed a few and I mean a few no more than 10-15 small apps and now already its saying out of internal memory. How little flash memory does this thing come with.

Checked all apps most are tiny few hundred k to a few MB checked cache of all apps nothing looks out of place cleared them all to be fair.

Even deleted a few of them still I cant update youtube It fails now due to not enough internal memory free. So less than a weeks use barley anything installed on it and its out of memory already.
yet the internal storage is free with nothing on it and the 16 gig SD card I have stuck in it is left unused.
Anything I can do ? Less than 7 days into owning this and already I cant update it. yet i have less than a tenth of the apps I have installed on my Desire S compared to this tablet.

Moved them all mate well all the ones I can without rooting facebook etc cant be moved, first thing i did not a total stranger to Android had 2 android phones. Never had this issue either phones. I expected the internal flash mmeory to be 8gig the OCUK advertising is very miss leading. The actual internal memory is tiny and like the orignal nexus runs out of space within a few days. :(

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Another issue it seems to have is if I go into setting and mess around in there the tablet locks up. Anyones else does this ? No lock ups at all anywhere else but I no if I go to settings I will get a lock up specially on teh Apps tabs.

I think the main problem for the apps that can't be moved is the partition sizes of the '8GB' internal memory. There's actually about 10 different partitions but this image shows the main ones:

The 'system' ~512mb is where the unmoveable apps get installed (or data I've forgotten right now), whereas it would be much more useful being on the 'sdcard' partition which is the biggest part. Alternatively they could have just made system much bigger. I've rooted mine, but not worked out how to adjust the partitions yet.

There's a certain part in settings > apps where mine locks up also, usually when checking the details of one of the system processes.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but have one of these coming from the clearance offer. Is the above method still suitable for rooting?

Mine never really got any use - I found it to be so slow, that it was just more of a frustration than a help. It certainly put me off the concept of a tablet for a long time.

I've ordered one of these and had it delivered to my mum. I've been on the phone with her getting it set up and apparently it ran out of space simply updating the apps installed! Any tips? (I don't think she'll be able to root it!)

Welcome to the club its basically a £50 paper weight you cant even install facebook after updating the tablets built in apps.

Ha ha, yeah, that's kinda what I'm realising! When I can visit to root it, can I remove some things to free up some space?

I'm thinking it will be mainly for checking e-mail and such and downloading video (which I assume will go to the 4GB storage) from Dropbox.

I had hoped to install Ticket to Ride for her, but that's 120MB!

From the reading around I did on xda and a few other places some who had rooted it had managed to get about an extra 200mb from moving google etc. One guy with great difficulty managed to 1GB with lots of tinkering with making it think it had another partition. Way to much hassle when I can spend an extra 20quid and get something with no limits.

So I bought 6 of these for friends and family who wanted one.

Only tested 4 so far, one keeps dropping wifi connection and crashing apps. Another has completely frozen and blank screen.

Another thing is the app storage, 500mb?!?! What exactly are you ment to do with that, advertised as 8gb. Seriously not impressed!
