The OCZ Vertex 3 Thread

Hello guys. I've just ordered a 120gb V3 and was wondering if there's anything special I need to know about installing it? I just plan on setting it up as I do any normal HD.

I currently have x2 samsung 1.5 TB and was wondering should I set up all 3 in raid 0 ?

Doing this will wipe all date on them ?

Thanks

:p I think it's working flawlessly now :D Speeds seem good, no freezes, no BSODs, no random restarts, just running smoooooth

Still not sure whether to keep the vertex as my steam drive to run games off though or to move it to my windows drive, as i doubt i'll notice much difference over my x25-m and i do need the extra space for games... hmm decisions decisions, it's such a hard life having top notch speedy equipment :D

I like having my steam stuff on my Vertex. First in TF2 servers always, ALWAYS! :D

I'm getting occasional bluescreens due to my Vertex 3 - the latest relating to ataport.sys - and my computer won't boot if I just press the reset button. Power off and on fixes it. This is very disappointing after going through TWO Vertex LE drives. It seems that OCZ drives offer great performance but their reliability is in the gutter. I just make sure to regularly backup my files, with symbolic links and Dropbox being essential.

Backup with Macrium Reflect free.

Full image backup in around 4 minutes :D

Not sure how it backs up so small though. I've used roughly 50% of my 128GB, but the backup file is only 22GB. I guess the compression and the stuff it excludes makes quite a difference.

Well depending on how you have it set up/how much RAM you have its going to save 8-16GB on the pagefile/hibernation files straight away!

Just got a "missing boot media" error when I tried to boot up today, a reboot fixed it but along side the stability problems I had a few days ago (I could log on but it wouldn't load up any programs etc), does it sound like my Vertex 3 is dying?
Currently running firmware 2.02, should I try 2.11?

sounds like the drives are more trouble than the worth.

a sacrifice of a couple MB/s and better support sound like a better deal AKA Corsair Force GT 3

was contemplating getting the OCZ but i cant for the life of me believe OCZ cant get a firmware out that works after all this time.

Anyone still on XP and can bench their drive up against 7 with it on the AS SSD copy test.

really odd numbers here on XP.... 7 is fine, i know TRIM and all will kick in and degrade the disk, but ive just trimmed it in 7 and the difference is by some 300%?...

Same system, same setup... P8P67... irst 10.5... ahci...

Hi folks

I'm just wondering how many of you have updated to firmware 2.11 and have no issues.

I was thinking about updating my drive tonight from 2.09 to 2.11 and I'm just wondering if its going to cause more problems than its worth.

There seems to be so many problems with all the new firmware updates for these drives.:(

The firmware works flawlessly providing you follow the steps on the forums by the OCZ staff TO THE LETTER. Most importantly clearing the CMOS after firmware update, uninstalling the old RST drivers before the update and installing the correct RST drivers after the update. Half the reason people have problems is they don't follow the steps and just update the firmware. I personally haven't had problems with my drive since day one. This latest firmware ups the speeds past the advertised ones and for me at least is 100% stable.

So, what's the thoughts on this drive. Are they now reliable and stable ??

I want to order a 120 size but all the problems do tend to put you off!!

Are there ANY reliable SSD drives yet??

Really want to order one..

Its really hard to put your finger on tbh. As i said in my post, Ive followed all advice by the OCZ staff and had 0 issues since day one of owning this drive and I preordered mine, got the first batch that came out. Other people appear to have numerous issues but that could be that they don't follow the instructions to the letter. SSD is still a new technology so there are bound to be problems. Corsair are another option with their Force drives, same controller (as far as I am aware) and same performance.

Hey guys, I'm on the virge of sending my agility 3 back due to these bsod and errors. Just wanted to check one last time that I've tried everything, after a firmware update what does clearing the BIOS have to do with it?? Not seen that before with other drives, also with mobo in sig I wont need the rst drivers will I?

Cheers

Trust me, follow the instructions given by the OCZ staff. The reason for the CMOS clear is because information about your drive is stored in the CMOS. When you change the firmware that information remains. You need to clear the CMOS so that information is updated. It's then advised to install the correct RST drivers and refresh your WEI as that is also saved to the CMOS.

Hi All

Having a small issue with upgrading firmware on my vertex 3 120GB. The vertex is my main drive running windows so I cant use the toolbox. I therefore created the bootable USB pen drive listed here

http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?89670-Tools-for-OCZ-SandForce-Driven-SSD-s

I manage to boot in fine no issues. The icon for upgrading the firmware is already on the desktop. I run it and it just keeps failing! Current firmware version is 2.02. It tried to update to 2.06 but fails. I understand 2.06 needs to be loaded before it will update to current 2.11 or whatever it is now.

Anyone got any ideas?

Current spec Win 7 64bit, SPK1, 8GB RAM, CPU I7 2600K, Asus P8P67 Pro Mobo, MSI GTX 570, Samsung F1 and F3 1terabyte drives as backup.

Since the drive was bought a few months back It has lost the main drive on two occasions but a reboot sorted that. I've had one or two BSOD but nothing for sometime now.

Thanks in advance for any help/ suggestions / ideas etc etc

Have you got the bios setup as ahci?? I hear it can also be finicky which sata port u use. Make sure its in port 0 or 1. I used that method as it wouldn't update in 3 seperate computers using windows. I also used a sata2 port to update successfully.

Using a sata 3 port 0 I believe but would need to double check and yes ACHI is set in BIOS.

Will try using a sata 2 to do the update and see what happens.

Still a lot of jumping through hoops for these OCZ drives!! Seems like this is something that should have been ironed out a while ago or at the very least leassons leanrt form the first gen drives?
