The Offical Lian Li PC-A05 Owners Discussion/Modding Thread!

Tempted to move over from using a Shuttle to one of these, however as above no one has any stock in at the moment!

Yea does anyone have any idea when OC is getting these cases back in stock?

Just posted that question in the shop part. Hope they get some in soon as i am looking for a small case. Noticed a few places that have them in stock. Do you think a Thermalright Tru will fit ok in these cases? Is cable management a problem with this case? Asking as i don't have a modular PSU.

I think the modular is the way to go as there is not that much room to hide cables. I have just a little room behind the power supply but that is it. As you can see by the pictures I wont have a lot of stuff installed so I should be able to have a pretty clean install when done. My motherboard was warped so I had to RMA it for another one. Wait till you see the tweak for the fan controller.

Does anone have a picture of the lighted vandel switches for the power and reset on their case?

Checked OcUK today to see if they had stock and to my surprise it was listed as having 1 in stock! Snapped it up straight away so it should be with me on thurs.

I much prefer a smaller case at the moment.

Are there any similar cases to the lian Li PC-A05 for size. great cooling?

The other factor is cable routing, or the lack of!

Well mine arrived today. It looks great from my first impressions, and much smaller than my V2010! The materials used are thinner than on the V2010 but that's to be expected.

Oh, and it came with the hard drive cage installed upside down :D

edvb, if your A05 looks anything like this when you get it back, it will be awesome  :

Well I got my case parts back from the anodizer and riveted it back together. It turned out great so now I can move forward.

I am waiting for the Murdermods sleeving so I can do my power supplies 24pin and 8pin connectors.
I will be shortening the 24pin cable and removing the extra 4pin cable as it is not needed.

I also enlarged the hole for the Reset Vandel switch in the front cover so I am ready to go with that part.

My friend who has a CNC milling machine is going to cut the window on Monday for a case of beer.

I will get some pictures posted tomorrow.

Nice looking mate. How about cable management? Is that possible with such a small case? My PSU is not modular and it is a superb one. Is it possible to remove any cables i don't use? (Open up PSU and de-solder?)

Yes you can remove the cables you don't need. You can desolder them, like you suggested, or cut them at the base. Just make sure to leave the PSU unplugged for at least a day to let the capacitors discharge fully.

The i7 build is showing progress. I still have some fan grills to paint black and I am waiting for the Murdermods sleeving so I can start sleeving all the cables.

I need to shorten both the 24pin and 8pin cables and need to get some short SATA cables for the DVD and 128Gig SSD.

Here are some pictures of the build so far.

Thanks

I was able to find some 5" Sata cables so after I shorten and sleeve the other cables it should look neat and clean.

Thanks for the help on this build. It should last me for a while.

I modified a Scythe Kasemaster 3.5 black fan controller and made it fit inside the lian Li 3.5" bezel after drilling and using a file to square up the rectangular hole. It turned out pretty good and looks much better as it matches the rest of the case. I also sanded the knobs down so they did not stick out as far.

I hope the switches will look ok as I am at the point of no return on those.

Well I took all the components out of the case today for the final build.

I got my Vandel switches, Feet and Murdermods sleeving today so now I can get started.

The switches fit perfect and really look nice.

I also install the feet and touched up any spots with black paint around the nuts and threads.

Last thing today was to disassemble the DVD drive and paint the covers black.

Now the hard part of sleeving is next.

I am also picking up my side panel with the window cut out tomorrow. I hope it turns out well.
