I won’t need that much storage space, but if Parallels sort their act out then I’ll dual boot Windows and use it as my primary work machine (and ditch the company issue HP device).

You can't dual boot windows on it, well it certainly isn't supported and windows on arm is a pile of....

EDIT - ah you mean just run windows emulated... doh!

Firstly, I think @Feek and @ChrisD. should be banned for forcing me to buy.

Secondly, I’m trying to get my nephew to put it through his Unidays account for the sweet education discount but otherwise I’ve got the 16” M1 Max with 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD in my basket ready to checkout.

Nice, get it ordered, otherwise you will be waiting until the new year for delivery!

You will not be disappointed.

Had my 14" for 1 week now and I am still blown away! :D

It was not all plain sailing, the computer initially ran hot and there were issues with memory leaks and sub optimal battery life but I have now solved these.

Even under moderate load this thing is ice cold with no fans running!

I'm actually considering returning my 16"
I've just been running a head to head against my M1 13" and in my usage, there really isn't a huge amount of difference in performance. I think it's because what I do tends to be GPU heavy (CAD) and although the 16" is twice as powerful it's pushing twice as many pixels.
I will think on it over the weekend.

Just looked at the M1 pro 16 in apple store. Is it me or it’s really heavy and thick. Looks a generation back from my MBP 16 if I’m being honest

I prefer the old design but it made too many tradeoffs so I am happy with the new design all things considered. Form over function rather than the Ive era which was very much the opposite. If you don't need the power/features then the m1 macbooks (older ones) are amazing and have the better design. Can't say I miss the touchbar at all though.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the next get air and 13" macbooks. I would be a little surprised if they stick with the new MBP design as its not needed.

Very nice spec, you going buy a 16" & 14" ?

Did you use a fresh install of the OS? If you migrated you would have chucked a load of crap onto your new machine and it will not run optimally.

Just in response to a few comments above, I definitely prefer the new design. I quite like the 'heft' of the new 16" over the Intel version. I always found that chassis awkward to pick up and hold mostly due to the sharper edges - a bit like a curved display phone.
Since I tend to use mine 90% at my desk as a desktop replacement I don't mind the extra grams and mm's at all.

I'm trying to decide what model to replace my 2019 13" Macbook Air and I can't decide whether to go with :-

13" Macbook Air M1 (is 8Gb enough or would 16Gb be worth the extra)/256GB

or

14" Macbook Pro M1 16GB/512Gb

I normally use my Macbook docked so not to fussed about the screen size. Mostly just running web apps (Chrome, Safari) with a dozen or so tabs open, plus some coding/scripting apps. I know everyone says 8Gb is enough and you don't need a powerful CPU/GPU for basic tasks but I find my current Macbook AIr is really sluggish when connected to an external 1440p monitor running multiple apps and a bunch of web tabs to the point where it impacts my worklflow?

Would the 8Gb Macbook Air M1 be OK with my workload (would 16Gb RAM make a noticeable difference?) or should I step up to the 14" Macbook Pro? Particularly keen to get the opinion of anyone who's used both the Macbook Air M1 and Macbook Pro 14" M1 regularly.
