*** The official 2023 14" and 16" Macbook Pro thread (it has the M2 chip and up to 96gb Memory and everything!) ***

I see no reason here to upgrade from my 2021 16" M1 Pro. There is nothing I use it for where I find it wanting for performance, and that includes pretty hardcore CAD work.

I'm so tempted to get the 14" 12-Core Pro. I don't really use my Mini other than development, which is very little these days. If I'm at my desktop I prefer to use my PC, but I'd love to get start using a Mac as my main machine, but that wouldn't happen unless it's a portable one I can use around the house.

£1349 for the equivalent M1 Pro machine at the moment...do I really need to spend almost double?

I like the idea but the reality is it’s pointless for me.

I’ve a not quite so base model m2 air and then the 32core M1 Max 16”. I think the new “entry” 30core will likely be a little quicker but I’d be getting a spec drop from a generational bump and the point of that after resale on this m1 would be for the purpose of Willy waving only. If I went 38core I’d again only be Willy waving by the cost of that thing is eye watering.

I’m going to see what the m3 pro/max brings and may even rid myself of my m1 base air, my almost base m2 air and a few other bits I don’t use like the m1 iPad Pro, a few iPhones etc.. An M2 ultra studio may be affordable once I’ve binned that lot off if the man maths works out well and I’d be able to keep that for a few years without the need to upgrade (read 18 months max).

Buying for the sake of buying was obviously a thing over the last couple of years, it’ll likely continue to be a thing but I’m hoping it’s less so.

This is what I've settled on next but I need the price of the 16" to drop below £2500 to make it more palatable. Tim Cook is just raping my bank account left, right and centre these past six months.

Well the MBP M2 Pro 16"/16GB RAM/512GB SSD has appeared at <£2500 which was my biting point. This is one hell of an impulse purchase as I'll be spending all my savings on it.

I'm hoping that within 12 months from taking delivery, I am able to learn some Swift and will have developed some kind of iOS app and on the path to getting a job doing such. If I haven't, I'll have considered this "experiment" a failure and will be probably be up the creek without a paddle. :D

You’ll only have yourself to blame if you don’t succeed :D

I probably wouldn't have bought one of these for personal use but my new work have just sent me a 14" 12 Core and it's a beast.

No idea why they didn't just send me a 13" M2 (non pro) as for my use that would have done the job (web developer) but im not complaining :p.

Glad they've got rid of the Touch Bar and the keyboard is much improved over my last machine (i7 pro).

Been offered a 16" MBP M2 with 16GB and 1TB for 2K, still has 10 months warranty. There is some software that I use that only runs on Windows so I would need Parallels to run the VM. I do like the look of the MBP and the screen looks very good. It would be overkill for my use but I had a look online at the MacBook M2 Air which only has 8GB ram, seen second hand ones go for £850. Bit worried that Windows would be slow on that model. I do like the idea of being able to use my iPad as a second screen.

I also use this app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/unistellar/id1435141427 would that run on the Macbook? Not sure if even possible.
