***The Official 6320/6420 Overclocking Thread***

i found to get above 3.2 you need a lot more vcore volts. i think it was 1.44v for 3.4ghz and 1.54v needed for 3.6ghz but watch your load temps.

Yeah - I think I came across the same thing. That's why I haven't really pushed it up to 3.4. When I tried it on 3.4 it kept failing, and I gave up at 1.4V (I know, I'm a wimp with overvolting, lol)

Originally I was aiming for 3.2 (and would have been pretty happy with 3GHz) so didn't really try too hard for 3.4. But it really doesn't seem worth the diminishing returns of volts vs MHz gains as you get higher and higher. Eh, I might try go further one of these days.

Here is my current overclock, i know it only shows 5 mins on orthos but ive had it with no errors overnight for around 11 hours.

The only concern i have it the temps, its all in a Antec p182 and Im a bit worried the air flow is not that good, ive also re applied the heatsink and i think ive done a worse job because im sure the idle temp went up after i did it. I tried to get a thing layer all over the cpu but am wondering if i should use the blob in the middle method of applying the paste ?

I suspect i will have to increase the voltage if i go any higher, not tried higher than 425FSB yet because of the high temps.

Using a Thermalright Ultra 120 with akasa 120mm blue fan on a controller.

Ram is not stressed and at 5-5-5-15 timings.

Crucial PC5300 Ballistix
Raptor 150GB
Gigabyte DS3P

Got my E6420 today along with my new mobo Gigabyte P35C DS3R (DDR2 & DDR3) Version, not seen any of these E6420 codes yet, or how well they clock:

SLA4T MALAY
L703C432

Time will tell. I'd install it all now and find out but my Freezer 7 pro HSF is coming from elsewhere so i've decided to do it all at the same time rather than installing it with the standard HSF. Looks like tomorrow or the day after for the HSF to arrive.

God i'm itching to get it in there, ooer ;)

Just had a quick scout of the net and could only come up with one match for my CPU and it was in German, so a doogle translation revealed:

"Hello together!
Have which for the list:

L703C432/3500 MHz/1.408 V/LuKü/53°C/gigabyte P35-DS4/trendsetters

Coolly: Infinity
That was with 25°C ambient temperature, thinks there would have still more to go in the winter, and/or would have now also still more to go with more tension.

Are momentarily superior which configuration I to drive is, the following would have to the selection:

3300MHz with Standardvcore, 1,35V adjusted, Vdrop to 1,31V 45°C

3400 MHz with 1,4V adjusted, Vdrop to 1,36V with 50°C

3500 MHz with 1,45V adjusted, Vdrop to 1,41V with 53°C"

Reading between the lines from the brilliant translation *coughs* it looks like a possible decent clocker.

Did someone hit 3.6GHz then?

ive been at 3.6ghz since I started ;)

I have also been stable @ 3.7ghz.

4.0ghz on zalman is possible, but not stable enough. :o :(

I have had to drop my oc now. I have moved to a new bedroom. Its tiny and SOOOOO hot. I have those spotlights to light it and they are burning hot. the room is like 8' by 14'. Absolutly tiny with one skylight. :D I love it.

I love this chip!

first try at an overclock:

Stock CPU voltage 1.35V set in bios, CPU-Z says 1.312V

8x400 straight in at 3.2 seems stable but need to get testing. I know i need orthos, i'm running Vista64 does it stress both cores? where can i download it from?

More to come, watch this space...

Thats hillarious low volts Dc2006 for 3.6. Low temps too from that monster cooler. did you find your chip clocked better using that multi? did you try 8X?

CPU-Z often gets the vcore wrong.
Btw you can't tell how well a CPU model will overclock from a single report ,you at least need several dozen reports to get at least a rough idea ,that's where these threads come in handy :) (at least they do if people don't just focus on the very highest overclocks :p )

Hey all.
Can anyone shine some light on why CPU-Z reports the wrong multiplier for my e6320?
It says 6, but its 7. So its not showing the correct speed either!
Ive installed latest bios and got latest cpu-z.

Also intel TAT wont work.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

been overclocking my brothers 6320

managed to get to 3.4Ghz but gives errors in sp2004 even with changed RAM timings etc

Now at 3.3Ghz appears to be stable for now, RAM @ 4-4-4-12 944mhz

Setup:
6320
2GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400
DS3P
Tuniq Tower
