Any figures(substance) to go with that?

Just doing some testing

just went to the top of a moutain the same place and before was getting 45fps now get 60fps.

Ill post a screenie with fraps running soon

Done 1.4 mod...coolbits goes to 665 core... mem clocks a bit lower than before.....run 3d06 at 660/1600 artifact free...score 6173...well happy so far :)

Running two 7900GTs at 570/1600 (stock volts so cant get higher without artifacting, using VF900's on both cards and they don't go over 55-60)
Being held back by by CPU I reckon (3700+ San Diego at 2.5GHz) so not sure what more I'd gain from voltmodding.

You would gain much as not all games are as CPU dependant as others, but you would get a bigger E-Penis in 3dmark 2005 as you only need run game tests to score, in 2006 you need game+cpu tests. :p

Not much point going any further with them, only ran 3dmark to check the SLI was working and now I've gone back to playing games! Once some more demanding games come out then I'll look at the volt mods but right now it seems pretty pointless cos they handle everything thrown at them already.

what do you get in 06?

Havent got a pic as I ran it then removed it and the install files (a gig plus for a testing program seemed a massive waste!) but was about 6.5k, again the CPU is holding me back there I reckon. Was thinking of going dual core but cant justify it when only synthetic benchmarks and 1% of games would really benefit, maybe in a few months.... :p

I just wanted to thank everyone on this thread for helping me choose a 7900gt. Those that posted pics particularly. I can't believe how small that connection is. Before I referred to the pics I just guessed where the connection would be (in my head I guessed, not for real), but now I see that the 1.4v mod is almost microscopic (those dots are so small I didn't even see them the first time I looked). I am very pleased I went for the 'fine tip' conductive ink pen.

Anyway, i'll post and let you know how I get on.

Wow - these 7900gts are impressive overclockers. My Gainward 7900gt goes to 560/1830, netting 9900 odd in 3dmark2k5 and I haven't even volt modded yet. Will report my findings once I volt mod.

OK - did the volt mod and am now artifact free (10 mins of ATITool artifact tester and a couple of runs of 3dmark 2005) at 650/915. My 3dmark2k5 score has gone up to 10,724, and temps nder load are about 57C (with a Zalman VF700). This has ended up being a pretty good and cheap upgrade from a 7800GTX.

Shocking overclock! :) Did you use a pencil to volt mod this? Which tutorial did you follow? What's the volts you've got it on now?

Hi mate. I used conductive ink to draw the line shown in this link. So, the gpu is currently at 1.4V. I have't done anything to the memory. I doubt it'll go much higher, even if I tried the pencil trick on it. The card is currently air cooled.

If not already ( aint sure on all makes/models) sink the ram it will help esp if your going to overvolt and OC more, its no different ram to 6800U in that its cool running GDDR3 only its not 1.6ns like 6800U but it was still cooled by heatpipes alu cooler, its there for a reason, so IMO if your going to extreme OC a card you look at cooling 1st, many would immed replace the thermal goo on core with artic silver 5 and sink ram if not, even is its the thermal tape which aint as good as epoxy but 100% reversable.

Thats good OC can you please tell em the default ram mhz and ns.

Ok Yeps... what model is your 7900GT? Is it a default reference one?

It's a retail card. Default GPU clock is 450, and the default for the ram is 1320 effective (660 DDR). Not sure what the rating is on the RAM; I suspect it's 1.4 (or 1.2 - I dunno  )

My zalman VF700 came with ramsinks but I've read the mem dosn't really need them. I'm already getting pretty good clocks out of the ram though. I've heard of people getting as high as 2GHz (effective) on the ram, which, although impressive, prolly wouldn't get me much more performance.

Will have to try this when my VF900 comes through the post. :)

So glad you are having fun with your GT's feel a bit left out having a GTX now!

lol :p

My 7900 GT was a great clocker too.

All the 7900 GT's use 1.4 memory with the GTX using 1.1

Ginger thats great but the ram is not running stock now and even more so if you pencil mod volts, stick your ramsinks on esp as they are easy to remove later as taped on, will also prolong its life.
