break the 12k its in there lol!

Gonna do the 1.4v mod this evening after work. Just wondering though, how many of you that have volt modded your cards have had any problems since the mod?

ok I've done the 1.4v mod now and things are looking good.
Currently at 630 / 1660 giving me scores of over 10k 3dmark05 & over 5k 3dmark06 [cpu: opteron 146 @ 10x 268]

Max core before the mod was 540 so I'm chuffed to bits so far. Temps have risen of course but load temps of around 52 are still way better than stock cooler @ 61 load.

Been using Rivatuner which tops out around 675 core but I suspect I will be getting artifacts before then. Well pleased with this 7900GT :D

Well done Fish Police. That's some good clocking. Give it till the end of August (when it's not quite so warm) and then do the 1.55v mod, it'll let you get another 30-60 on the core. The temp trade off is quite high though which is why i'd not recommend it till it's cooler.

Nice, my max core (without mod) is 564. Hopefully it will fly once I get around to doing the voltmod. Havent bothered yet as all my games run perfect on high :p

Well it turns out the highest I could go without sparklies was 630 core -pretty good as its only about 20 less than a GTX :D
I actually had it up to 660 running 3dmark05 with no artifacts but ATITool freaked out straight away at that speed.

I stopped clocking the memory at about 1760 as it wasn't having much effect on 3dmark scores & I'm reluctant to push the memory too much.

Very happy with this card so far. It runs everything fine at stock speeds so it can stay at a medium overclock for the time being & I will max it out when the next new graphics-intensive game comes out.

Is the 1.55v mod not pushing it even for a vf900?
What are max safe load temps for these cards anyway?

To be honest I don't know. But I go by the rule that if I can't hold my finger on any part of the exposed card or heatsink for more than 5 seconds or so then it's too hot, and right now, with the temps in my room upward of 30C I'm getting pretty darn close to reaching that threshold. According to ATI tool though it can get up to 62C and that's only after 6 or 7 mins of running the test. I suspect though that the stock heatsink would probably give about the same results if I hadn't done the mod; so I guess it's probably ok up to 65-70 at least.

EDIT: After a quite test with ATI tool and reaching over 70C rather than 60 odd as I was expecting I decided to use google to find out what other people are maxing at under load. There seem to be a good number in the high 70s / low 80s so I think we'll be fine. Also, apparently EVGA have quoted upwards of 100C to be problematic. Still, i'm hitting 72 underload after 10mins of ATI tool.....might just make it 20 mins to make sure it doesn't creep any higher.

Final EDIT: It got up to 74C for a split second or so then oddly slid back to 69C before becoming stable again at 72C. That's after 20mins of ATI tool with the fan on max. As a point of fact my other card, which currently has no volt mod is at 58C.

Hi all, sorry to dig this thread back up but need some help.

Ok i have had a 7900gt for a couple of weeks now, working fine. Am amazed with the graphics in call of duty 2! I have played it at 1600*1200 full everything and although it only gives me about 20-30 fps according to fraps its still perfectly smooth which is weird because i thought 20-30 frames would be crap.

Now my question is, how do i go about overclocking this thing and what benchmarks shall i use to see if i am getting anywhere?!

Well the best benchmark for you is probably 3dmark05 as it's very GPU intensive and isn't too biased by CPU speed. 3dmark03 and 06 will also offer good relative speed indicators.

In terms of how to overclock, the easiest thing to do is download coolbits and press the 'auto-detect' option in the new 'clock frequency' tab in the nvidia control panal. You can then manually tweak it up or down. The 7900gts tend to detect quite high on the core and low on the memory and i'd recomend moving it down 10mhz from there and maybe up 50 on the memory. There are more advanced overclocking techniques as coolbits is limited in how far it can push a card, but for starters it's more than enough.

Whos running two 7900 GTX in sli?

I was thinking of getting a 7950 to play with as I am bored. But I might just get another GTX now.

Anyone running two GTX's?

And has anyone got a link for the hacked drivers to use on the 975x chipset?
