I've got a problem with my AppleTV, where it won't install the Twitch app. It'll just keep spinning in the app store but won't download. I'm wondering if a factory reset would fix the issue.

I mean, thinking about it would clean things up, as I've got apps on there that I don't need anymore.

Have you tried updating to the latest tvOS?

Is there enough storage?

I've been enjoying using this device but it is irksome that most the apps I use are out-of-date compared to what's on my Amazon Fire Stick. I wonder why that is. Is it because Apple wants the developers to use the tvOS APIs instead of generic web stuff like everywhere else, hence delays...?

Yep. I have the 32GB model and have only got 5 or 6 streaming apps on it. No games or music or anything.
I have had that a few times installing Apps and unplugging it for a while usually helps. Other than that a reset might work too…
I think I'll have to go with a reset. Hopefully, that'll work.

I wish you could manually update apps. I hate that they automatically update in the background, as you never know whether they have been updated or not. I tend to leave my ATV on for 15 minutes a week without doing anything to ensure I have the latest updates installed.

Just ignore it?

If only it were that simple.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve accidentally pressed it - sometimes just picking the damn thing up.

Most annoying of all, is that pressing back after you’ve pressed the side button doesn’t always take you straight back to the previous screen, it drops you back to the Home Screen — so then you have to click back through to where you were before.

Which is a pain if you were just adjusting the volume, or wanted to quickly pause/unpause.

For whatever reason my 21 ATV won’t load in the tvOS public beta-gets to stage 2 and then restarts itself…

My 17 model and 22 one went through with no issues.

Are there any Apple Developers on this forum who could give some insight as to why tvOS is a bit neglected?

A couple of things that came up recently - BBC Sounds is not available on tvOS. Why is this when it works perfectly well on iOS? I thought all these operating systems were very similar to develop for? And no subtitles on BBC iPlayer on tvOS. What nonsense is this when they are perfect on iPhone?

I'm starting to think I should plug my Amazon Fire TV stick back in and just use Apple TV for Fitness+ and Screen Mirroring only. What a shame.

I'm only learning so not a "proper" Apple developer, but from my understanding, Apple requires apps to have certain features to be available on the tvOS store. It might be that the app developers don't see it as a priority.

Yeah, I have just plugged the Fire TV back in and immediately you can see the difference in a number of apps - BBC iPlayer has UHD options, ITVX and Peloton apps have more features than Apple TV. It makes me sad as I much prefer the tvOS experience as a whole. :(
