** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

I'm getting bsod's then it quickly reboots before I can read the error message. How do I turn off the reboot, I've looked in the bios but can't see what ut could be.

Did you try posting in the Abit 650i thread? There is also a highly regarded MSI version P6N-SLi or P6N-SLi Platinum which is more the direct equivalent of the P5N-E SLi. ECS make one too - specifically for SLi as it can't actually run a single slot at 16x.

If you're really going to be running SLi then the ECS has the best board layout and is cheapest, followed by the MSI P6N-SLi Platinum, however none of them are as stable or overclock as well as the ASUS.

Also be aware that no-one has posted in the Abit 650i forum for over a month, and it's more like 2 months in the MSI thread. No-one could be bothered to make an ECS thread  but the ASUS one consistently gets something like 20 posts a day which is where the popularity comes from. There are half a dozen hardened 650i users on here who will help out when an ASUS user has a problem, whereas the poor Abit, MSI and ECS users have to sort themselves out.

If I was spending between £400 and £800 on graphics cards, then I'd sink more than £70 into the motherboard. You really owe yourself an EVGA 680i board. It's not that much better in absolute terms, but it'll just work better out of the box for you. That's what my games system is currently running - 2 8800GTS and the EVGA 680i Rev. 2.

It's not in the BIOS - that only controls what happens if the power is cut suddenly. Google for "Windows (insert your OS) in Diagnostic Startup Mode"

That gigabyte looks nice with better power management (8pin motherboard connector, 6Phase power, extra molex for PCI slots) and better layout (SATA will fit fine with SLI cards) and also a much better NB cooler.

It seems to perform very slightly slower then the Abit or Asus though. Not sure if it'd be worth the extra £20 or so for the 6 phase power and other benefits.

Vcore goes up to a whopping 2.375V though! Someone with phase cooling should get this board and see what the highest voltage/Mhz they can get with a multi unlocked C2D :D

Right click my computer - properties - advances - startup and recovery - settings - untick automatic restart

I'm currently running two 7800 GTXs, I was just thinking of the future. When I need faster GPUs it looks like I should upgrade the mainboard anyway.

I have both boards here - the Abit and the Asus. One PC I'm building for a friend who will run Vista, Office 2007 and a bit of Photoshop at stock speeds with the stock Intel cooler. The other will be for me, running in SLI as fast as it possibly can with a Zalman 9500 cooler. My current E6600 won't get past 2.9 Gig in the current board, but I have another one for my friends PC. I'll see which one clocks fastest and keep it for myself!

I'll keep the Asus and put the Abit in his machine.

Thanks for the input.

No fair! - you assumed (correctly) he was running XP! :D

I seem to be having some perforance issues with this Motherbaord and was wondering if I'm using the right drivers?

At the moment I'm just running the nForce drivers as (and I'm probably just being thick) I find the Asus site damn confusing when it comes to picking out what dirvers I need.

So can someone point me in the direction of the best drivers for the this MB? Im running Vista 32. No raid, just two Sata drives. Not using on-board sound either.

Just get the latest ones from nvidia website :)

The P5N32-E "PLUS" SLI is cheaper and uses 650i NB + 570SLI SB combo while the P5N32-E SLI uses the new 680i.

All the 6x0 NVidia boards use the same Northbridge - it's called C55. Where the boards differ is what Southbridge they use. The 650i boards use the 430 Southbridge, the 680i boards use the 590 Southbridge and the 680 'Plus' board uses the 570 Southbridge. The 570 Southbridge board is horrible. Please don't buy one - for £20 more you can have an EVGA Rev. 2 if you look about.

$8 Incl. VAT each plus $22 Incl. VAT shipping plus £13 Royal Mail customs handling (!) four cables worked out at almost £10 each.

I've got a friend coming over from the states in June. Can you remember where you ordered them and the part ***? I'll get some just in case!

Hmmm - potentially more support issues that way :D

I assume you mean on my part. I'll soak test it for 7 days before letting him take it away. If the bottom PCI slot fails I'll RMA it in favour of the Asus.

He's thinking of installing Small Business Server. That would make him a proper client.
