What a muppet, whats the point in making the board SLi capable, and you cannot even run a modern day GeForce in SLi! Some people!

Maybe the ASUS designers only use PATA drives? Maybe that's why it's the only decent board with 2 PATA ports? - No, I don't think so either

being a laydee I suppose you don't play games right?...

You must be very young/inexperienced. When you get to be as old and world-worn as me you'll realise that the ladies play lots of games....

And they never explain the rules either....

:D

Got ya new P5N-E yet? Borked it again yet? :)

Nope not received it yet. Just got an email saying they received it on saturday. Didn't know the post ran on saturdays over there. Maybe there warehouse was just late sending me the email.

I expect to get it back on wednesday so I'll see if it's my graphics card or my old motherboard that is broken at the moment. Really getting ****** off at my computer now. Nothing is working! grr..

If it's my graphics card that's broken then I'll have to order a new one.. looking at the 2900.. mm.. tempted.. so much money. That won't get here til monday though so I'll be out of action for over a week from now still!

If the new motherboard breaks again.. I'll just have to demand a refund and get a different board. Something nice and reliable like a DS3P.

Fixed and fixed and yes I hope so. I can only hope that this one will work. Of course my graphics card might now be dead so I'll have to get a new one if this new board doesnt boot up at all.

While theoretically there is nothing to stop him installing SBS on a system based on that motherboard, I'd have to say it's not something many 'professionals' would recommend.

But it's car-crash IT support - I just have to watch even though I know people are going to get hurt :D

No. I'll be installing SBS on either a Dell or HP Server with same day hardware support and an Ultrium tape drive.

I actually run SBS on an Athlon XP 3200 and an NF7-S board but I support it myself and with the exception of the tape drive which is on next business day replacement I have a full set of spares. I actually had a bit of a 'mare two weeks ago when for some reason I lost a PSU, mainboard and boot drive all on the same day. I was back up and running inside a couple of hours though. It seems to do the job well enough with 10 clients. I also have Slimserver running on it with 4 Squeezeboxes.

I take your point on the Abit. If it breaks I'll send it back. If it doesn't I'll smile. It isn't his only client PC so it isn't life and death if he's without it for a few days while it is being repaired.

AVAST is free and stable, but it steals processor cycles from Folding@Home so I bodyswerved it.

I actually use the fully paid up Server2K3/Exchange2K3/Client version of Sophos which is great, but quite pricey.

I am told the new version of McAfee isn't totally carp. But it doesn't work with Vista apparently (unbelievable in this day and age).

The latest version of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise supports Vista.

I moved away from McAfee as the central management package (Protection Pilot) needed constant tweaking to keep it running. I now use Tend Micro Client/Server/Messaging which really is worry-free security. You just install it and it works. I managed to negotiate them down to £800 for 10 nodes for three years including a local named support contact.

What system monitoring tools are people using now Motherboard Monitor is no longer under development?

I <3 OCUK again :)

Just heard back from them saying that they should be refunding my postage costs soon and that my motherboard is still in testing.

Hope to hear back from then soon that a replacement is being sent out. Of course now my graphics card may have just died. It was working perfect before the second P5N. I wonder if it's a coincidence or did the second P5N kill the card. The graphics card was working fine between the first and second P5Ns though.
