** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

I assume you mean on my part. I'll soak test it for 7 days before letting him take it away. If the bottom PCI slot fails I'll RMA it in favour of the Asus.

You can soak test it all you want - I bet it fails when he tries to use it.

He's thinking of installing Small Business Server. That would make him a proper client.

While theoretically there is nothing to stop him installing SBS on a system based on that motherboard, I'd have to say it's not something many 'professionals' would recommend.

But it's car-crash IT support - I just have to watch even though I know people are going to get hurt :D

I've just looked at the EVGA 680 board and it does look nice. Maybe something for the future given that HUGE NB heatsink. In 12 month's time it will all be different anyway and at the moment I can run everything I need at 1920x1080.

Can we run SLi on this board to its full potential?

Will having a second card, will this run both cards in 8x opposed to 16x as this is a 650i board? Or will they both run at 16x?

Is it worth me getting another 8800GTX OC 768mb card on the P5N-E? Or would it just not be worth it on this board?

I'd have to remove that southbridge HS if I do though, doh!

Both cards will run at 8x AFAIA.

Also the second 8800 will obstruct the SATA ports unless you have one of those special 90 degree SATA cables that WJA96 mentioned.

Unless you're running extreme resolutions you won't see a massive improvement with two GTX's, but the 8x vs. 16x bandwidth issues only really become apparent at extreme resolutions. And the way the heatsinks work on those GTX's you'll have LOADS of airflow over the southbridge.

Thanks for reminding me - I need to look out the receipt for Tim. :)

Ok so its not worth it then, certainly not worth an extra £300 odd I suppose. When you say an issue with the SATA connections, you mean the connections on the board? Or the HDD's will be in the way?

Line up the GTX in the second slot and you'll see what I mean - It completely covers the SATA ports. Whoever designed it must have been asleep or using water-cooling.

Just to let you all know i took the plunge and bought another 2GB RAM got the Geil in the end as i figured if it didn't work it wasn't too much of a loss.

It wouldn't post of go into bios when i first put them in. So I took them out lowered the frequency to 667mhz with my processor at 3ghz put them back in and then it booted in straight away no problems, has been running stable since.

Im going to have a play about at some point when i get all my uni work out of the way, as my PC is getting pretty toast with that OC and all that RAM lol, its just i knew the settings worked and had them saved. :)

What a muppet, whats the point in making the board SLi capable, and you cannot even run a modern day GeForce in SLi! Some people!

So we have established that ladies dont play games, what about those of transgender (Probably Nintendo DS only)
Who needs equality and diversity in 2007.

Hey guys I do play games and yes I have had perfomance gains.

Vanguard is noticably more stable no random crashes and i was getting a solid 70 frames in an out doors environment dropping to 40 when it had other players to render, which is what I was hoping for. Before i was getting farames as low as 15.

TBH my rig owned other games anyway before i was playing 2142 with a constant 100fps but im sound for the future... :p

Basically now if a game wants 2gb it can have it and all the windows stuff can run on the spare and the game is taking full advantage.

Gunna tryget myself a copy of vista now.

Hmm sounds promising... I got 2gb of the GeIL at the moment, and the price of that currently is a steal!
