** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

Seems OK to me. Some people say that 0401 was the best one. I've nevr noticed any difference with any of them

0703 allows 4x1gig sticks and 1333fsb cpu's but limits the OCing potential with a 7x multi chip.
Im going to flash back to 0401 i think although 0608 was ok for me.

Flashed from 0703 to 0401 using EZ Flash2 and went fine, didnt even need to reset the CMOS, just running Orthos and once thats ok for a couple of hours i'l stick it back to 3.4ghz.
If you need to get your FSB above 1700 then use 0608 or 0401
If you need 4x1gb and/or1333fsb support then use 0703.

If you need to get your FSB above 1500 then use 0608 or 0401

I am using 0608 and I cant get above 1700fsb, is 0703 even worse?

0608 works fine here with 4 x 1GB, apart from the memory hole between about 723 and 838. Can't run at 800 so I run at 711. Does 0703 solve that I wonder....
Ive been reading a few posts on the Asus forum and the 0703 Bios has cleared up many issues when running 4x1gig modules, maybe your brand was ok anyway.
Im going to see what FSB 0401 gives me and if its no better/worse than 0608 then nothing lost.
I take it your Ram wont run faster than 838.

It is the Geil which is rated at 4-4-4-12 at 800.
It will easily go 900+ at more relaxed timings 5-5-5-15 - but it didn't make any difference in performance, so I just left it where it was

I tried 854 I think it was, still at 4-4-4-12 but got a memtest error at 2.0875v. Don't want to increase the volts becuse the next step is quite a big jump

Im on 0608 and i cant boot at anything over 1600FSB even with the ram on a divider. Cant run it 1:1 as i have a mix of Geil 667 and 800

You may have hit a memory hole as ive gone from the low 1700's to currently stressing at 1850. Try dropping your divider to 7 and have a go in the low 1700's.

To TUVOC, tight latencies dont seem to give C2D system a boost anyway. I run my Geil at 5 5 5 15 and its no different in super pi than anything lower.

I'm confused, in Vista I can do 8 hours + stable at 3.4Ghz, 850Mhz ram, 1.47V, I can also do 3DM06 over again with no errors, but in XP, I crash in 3DM06 at 3.4Ghz, also on the desktop too, and with my 850/1020Mhz 2900XT overclock, that is fine in Vista, but unstable in XP :s.

Who'd have thought that, Vista more stable than XP ;)

got this mobo, just bought a Q6600 2.4Ghz and i am hoping to OC to 3.4Ghz.... is this possible?

Whats best things to change in the bios and what should i set them to? ie. Voltage? multiplier? FSB? to get 3.4Ghz... i believe the multiplier is *9 so change the fsb....???

Im on the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler.... so i think i have enough cooling.

Cheers

I'm not sure you'll get to the 378 FSB with the quad core on this board to get you to 3.4GHz. I've tried mine at 333 and it's fine (that would give you 3GHz). Vdroop on this board is horrendous with the quads as well

Worth trying though, I simply removed my chipset cooler, refitted it with as5 and popped a nice blowy fan on top, then maxed out the chipset voltage and I can now get stable at much higher bus speed.
If yours is a GO stepping you stand a good chance with the right cooling.

Use the 0401 bios as this is by far the best OCing Bios, you need 1.7V on the NB to get a decent clock and the HS needs to be actively cooled. have a search through this thread and you will find some very in deapth bios settings.
