** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

I've just got this mobo 2nd hand and upgraded the bios to the new 703, but the thing is it won't let me clock my E6300 past 2.8Ghz without failing to boot.

I tired unlinked, linked ansync proberly every memory option going without sucess this being the main reason i bought this mobo in the first place so i can keep my 2Gb G.Skill PC6400NQ happy and without pushing it to far.

I finally had enuf and put my DS3 back in which is letting me run nicley at 3.2Ghz but i want to squeeze some more out of my E6300 as i know it do 3.6Ghz easily on near stock volts, which will be plenty fast enuf for a time yet as i don't see the point in either the 1333fsb Cpu's or the quads just yet.

Now i heard this 703 bios could be the problem that limiting my overclocks if this is the case can anybody recommend a good bios that won't limit me and let me get to 460fsb+

I'm having trouble overclocking my E6600 on this board. This is my first time overclocking, and so far the best I got it to be stable at is 3,03ghz with 800mhz rated memory at 675mhz in sync mode, and the FSB at 1,350mhz, and Vcore at 1.31250 +.100MV. It was stable 10 hours on prime95 temps only getting to 52. Now I try to go any further and it just doesn't want to, I tried going up to 1,400mhz FSB making the CPU at 3.15ghz and it froze within a minute after I checked temps and Vcore while running 1 instance of superpi doing 1 million. It's booted fine now at 1,400mhz with a Vcore of 1.35V with +.100MV, and under load it is at about 1.42V lowest. Now is there something I am missing as why does mine need so much Vcore to get stable, whereas some people can get here on stock voltage. Is it just this board in general, or is it MY board in general? I really want to aim to get it to 3.4ghz, 3.6ghz ideally so the RAM can be in sync mode and FSB at 1,600mhz and RAM running stock at 800mhz. Am I aiming too high?

I think I've finally got stable at 3.4Ghz.

I set the Multiplyer to 8x.
Then I slowely went to 1700FSB from 1600FSB.
Max voltage on the NB
1.56or 1.57V idle on the CPU and 1.47V load, even with +100mv at 1.55V it still went to 1.47V
My load temp seems to be around 59 degrees, I also lowered the that LDP multiplyer or whatever it is caleld to 2x, ram is at 850Mhz 4-4-4-12 stock volts :D, 1:1 ratio, seems really good, I might even try a lower multiplyer and push the FSB higher and see if I can possibly get 3.5Ghz or more, but I do think on a mobo like a DS3R I would get slightly higher clocks, but if I can maintain the 3.4Ghz, then I'm happy, I ran orthos for 1 hour 30 mins and had no errors, at which point I wanted to go out so I stopped it.

Weirdly enough at 3.37Ghz 1.47V I got an error in windows that Desktop Windows Manager or soemthing encountered an error and had to close, and I knew what would come 5mins after that, a BSOD, but never got anything like that at 3.4Ghz 1.47V, I guess the FSB coped better at an equal speed.

What is the stock voltage for the NB on this board? And how high can the NB temps get to with and without a higher voltage. And what is that LDT multi and what does it do when you lower it? I had it running at 1,400mhz FSB and left it on (idle) and coming back a few hours later it had frozen, this was at 1.46 Vcore (1.35 +.100MV). Thanks.

Anyone running 4GB of RAM on the P5N-E SLi? I can only get 4GB of PC6400 running at 661mhz unlinked, 700mhz or higher and the PC freezes on the post screen (I get up to the detecting IDE drives and it dies). I cannot even get into the BIOS from here as it crashes, so I have to remove one stick of ram, get into BIOS set it back and put the stick back in!

I boughgt another 2GB cos it was on offer and was a steal, and also dont know how long it will be before I cant get this RAM anymore, so I thought why not... but Im now running from the proper 800mhz to 661mhz, which is a bit sucky!

Anyone got 800mhz from 4GB? What settings you got (voltages, timings etc)? And did you need to update th ebios to get this? I updated to 0505 a long while back and that has been fine for now, but dont want to upgrade again unless I know for a FACT that it will help things?

Cos of the pafectic speeds im getting from my RAM now, I have managed to knock the timings down from 4-4-4-12 to 3-3-3-8, but I want speed more than timings!

Any help will be appreciated?

Not all ram slots are created equal on this board apparently. If your using all 4 then thats why it wont clock as much I guess, try upping the volts?

Cant up the volts any more, I get BSODS even one notch higher on DDR voltage. Im at 2.2 already, the suggested volt by GeIL is 2.1.

Hi.

Well I've had a hell of a time getting my E6600 to 3.4Ghz, but I think I may have made it, the priority or orthos in Task Manager was set to low tho :\.

Anyway, It's been on over 8 hours now and even with it on my dad was playing Bioshock and it has not reset, now would this be classed as stable since 3pm untill the time this screenshot was taken my dad was playing Bioshock, or should I run orthos again tonight for 8 hours?

Orthos8hours.jpg

3.4Ghz, FSB at 1700mhz, LDT w/e it is called freq at 2x, ram ay 850Mhz for 1:1, it is only stable at the 8x multiplyer, when my dad was playing bioshock yesterday, I left orthos on and the PC crashed, did not today.

This motherboard is a handfull, it's impossible for me to get higher than 1700fsb :\, anyone else having this problem?

This is a known bug with the 650i chipset and affects all boards based on it - at least that is my understanding. That came from an OCZ memory expert on their forums. There is a memory hole between about 723 and 838 with 4 x 1GB sticks. There is no solution. I run at 711.

Willhub, you have the same clock as me. Mine isnt orthos stable but its good enough for any other app, it'll go to 3.6ghz (and do superpi, etc) but not reliably so I stay here at 3.4

I rekon if there was no damnd Vdrop I could get to 3.5Ghz and have it stableish at 1.5V.

I think 3.4Ghz is fine now, just a shame I cant get my ram over 900Mhz at 8xmultiplyer and the FSB it is at , wont boot, even if I raise the voltage still wont boot, but if I try 1000Mhz 5-5-5-15 2.35V at x9 multiplyer so a lower FSB then the PC will boot, 850Mhz ram dont seem fast enough.

So, would you think I can finally class it as stable then?

Well I cant even run at 700, let alone 711 :) What DDR and NB voltage are you at?

NB voltage at auto, and RAM at 2.0875 4-4-4-12 with 2T, other subtimings on auto. The Geil Ultra low latency stuff. I can't recall the BIOS setting, but it is linked I think with the 3/2 or 2/3 divider option. i.e. not toally unlinked, I don't enter the RAM speed, it is calculated. Mine is wonderfully stable 24/7, mostly under full load.

hi
can someone tell me which is more reliable coretemp 0.94 or 0.95 as 0.94 shows my idle temps around 30 while 0.95 shows them around 40

could you let me know what voltages you're using to do get that oc at those temps please. Mine runs at 40(probe tool) or 49(coretemp)
