** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

As suggested can you set everything to default and just input the ram latencies at their rated timings, leave the cpu clock for now.

My board would act very funny when set to unlinked mode, to get a decent clock I was always forced to run it in linked mode.

i have tried all default and just set the ram timings, only done timings and small overclock to show yous guys wots happening, with just the ram timings set in bios, (4-4-4-12_ it still shows as 5-5-5-18 in cpuz

Ok i seem to of fixed it now, removed battery and cleared cmos for about 10 minutes, then reflashed bios back to 0801, and all is good again :)

P5N-E sli random BSOD and memory errors...please help

Hi. My PC has been running fine for 6 months however, 2 weeks ago I began getting Blue screens whenever i start my computer after about 10s-1minute of being in Vista (x64 Ultimate). THE BSOD are usually PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and have had system_service_exemption. After the restart the pc generally works ok. Recently programs have crashed more frequently so I ran memtest.

Memest found numerous errors. I also ran memtest86+ (v2.01) which also found many errors (esp during test 5). I have 4gb of ram (2 x 1gb of corsair, and 2 x 1gb of Geil 6400) I began by lowering memory speeds to 667, lower timings to 5-5-518-2T and played with higher and lower Ram voltages (1.8-2.2V). I recieved no errors with each stick individually (tested for 9hours each and tested a stick in each slot). I also get errors with just the 2 corsair in slots A1 and B1 or A1 A2. I reduced my CPU speed and enabled virtualization tech with no effect. I reinstalled vista with vista SP1. I heatsinked southbridge and added a fan to northbridge. I also changed the bios to the latest 0901 and then back down to 0608 and 0703 (all had memory errors). I have also unistalled norton 360, nvidia display drivers (8800GTS 640mb) and creative audio drivers for my X-fi.

I have spoken to ASUS who suggested going back to 0901 bios and lower LDT frequency to 4. Lead to same, if not more errors. Anything else I can do would be very much appreciated??

RAM timings:
5-5-5-18 2T @ 800HMz 2.1V

At the risk of sounding thick, haven't you considered RMAing the RAM?

FYI, I've had 2 separate stability issues with my P5N-E SLI. First, the MB battery was replaced which solved boot instability. Then I reseated my CPU with less TIM (used way too much before) and has improved overclocking stability.

Dam my northbridge is at 53c, somehow my fan setup is similar to a forging kiln. Still its just processed 2gb of video in 20 mins with no problem, cant complain

If you want a practical app to test cpu stability that isnt orthos try out Dr.Divx

I've thought about it but each stick passes memtest86+ for 9hours without any errors. Just get errors when 2 or more sticks are present.

The board doesnt do more then 2 sticks unless you go stock or underclock

Honesty if your system is 100% stable and has no issues I wouldn’t bother.

Still on 0202

Well the temptation to solve the 4 x 1GB memory or FSB hole whatever you call it, was too great. So I updated from 0608 to 0901. And I was delighted that is IS fixed, my RAM can now run exactly at it's 800 rated speed

BUT and it's a big BUT, I can no longer increase the multiplier on my unlocked QX6700 Extreme CPU. ASUS how totally PATHETIC you are !!! What a bunch of amateurs. I can decrease it, but not increase it as I could before and as I am supposed to be able to.
I'll have to weigh up what I've gained and what I've lost, and decide whether to stick with 0901 or go back to 0608

I think this will be my last ever ASUS board.

I'm on 04xx as well, starting to get bluescreens more often, even without o/c.
looks like my sata drive is disappearing, have to repower to get the bios to see it again!

Mmm, the fresh smell of degrading components.

Your problem could probably just be a loose connection or a dying HDD. Starting to get bluescreens on stock however, not a good sign. What does the bluescreen state... reformat perhaps?

no idea what the bluescreen says, it reboots right away so it's only visible for a very short time.
I've run a check on it with the usual checkdisk and a CD based checker from Hitachi, no problems found.
No problems since I did those tests though.
I may upgrade the bios if it happens again.

Try using crystal cpuid. I can lower and raise the multipler when I want more power/stability or less heat, etc. In theory it will sit in your system tray and just needs a right click, I find it can be a bit fiddly but will always change it on a e6400

I might stick with this asus board till kiefer comes out

I emailed ASUS support about the issue, and they sent me a 1001 BIOS which restored full multiplier control, as well as retaining the 4 x 1GB fix. It all works perfectly now, I doubt that I'll ever need to flash the BIOS on this board ever again.

How well does the 1001 bios clock, im adding another 2 x 1 modules shortly.

Cheers
