** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

How well does the 1001 bios clock, im adding another 2 x 1 modules shortly.

Cheers

I'm just running the QX6700 at 266 x 11 = 2.93GHz
Equally, it runs perfectly at 333 x 9 = 3GHz
Beyond that, I don't know

I'm about to try 4 x 2GB OCZ modules in the board. I doubt they will work, if not, no matter, the 4 x 1GB Geils have run perfectly for over 12 mths and I'll continue to run them

Il have GeIL 4GB (4x1GB) PC2-6400C5 and Vista 64 to put on as well.

Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 ordered today

hi all i have ordered the Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 today and some new ram as my mobo and ram have broke last night after unistalling my H20 setup im guessing water dripped somewhere.
i have just spent the last hour or so reading the threads on the Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 board and im not sure if i have ordered a decent board or a board that is buggy i currently have a GTX and may go SLI in the future but not sure, maybe i should have ordered a P35 Board instead have i made a mistake or will this board be ok i may try my first overclock in the very near future also, be interested to know some opions from some gurus on this please

For a quad - buying this board is a mistake today if you want to overclock. You'll be lucky to get a quad much over 3GHz on this board. A P35 board is a very much better choice. If you can cancel your order, I would.

hi thanks for quick reply ,board and memory are arriving tommorow after paying £18 for saturday delivery so cant cancel now i would be more than happy with 3GHZ overclocking isnt a major issue just want a nice stable board

Yup, unfortunately the CPU PWM stage really isn’t up to overclocking quads, its 3-phase design is a real let down. It’s still a fairly stable board if not pushed beyond its limits, my Q6600 ran 3GHz at a very low vcore 100% stable :) I’m sure it will yield good results when running an SLI GTX setup. I can’t comment because I’ve never tried SLI on this mb and I’m not sure if anyone has on this thread either.

oh well should have ordered a P35 but i have rushed into ordering this so my own fault ,overclocking isnt a major issue been more that happy running on 2.4ghz so long as i have a nice stable mobo i will be more than happy

The Asus P5N-D 750i is 4-phase and the EVGA 750i SLI is 6-phase, general concencis is the EVGA is the better board for overclocking quads, which makes sense.

OK, if not overclocking a quad then it will be a nice stable reliable board, so you should be fine although I don't run SLI. Mine has run 24/7 for over a year now, no problems at all, I've been perfectly happy with it especially since later BIOS have fixed certain RAM issues. It's a very nice board bar the quad overclocking limitation

Don't open it - return it under the DSR and get either the EVGA 750i or a P35 board. And try your original board again now it should have dried out. They generally work fine once they dry off.

Personally I would do exactly that :)

I have in the past spilt coolant over pc components, all I do is simply mop up the spilt water with a cloth and leave it for a good few days to dry off completely. Obviously there is a limit to how wet you can get a pc component but a few drops of water has never killed any of my hardware, making sure all power is off is most important.

check the GTX will run in sli, i remember reading somewhere the GTX dont run at x8 which this mb does when in sli

I think your correct buddy

An extract from the nvida specs for the 8800GTX

Note: This card is 275mm in length so make sure it fits in your case! Also the cards require PCI-E x16 slots, they will not function in a x8 slot so for SLi you need dual x16 mainboard. Finally 500W minimum for PSU and 600W+ is recommended.

Did a quick Google and many people found that 2 GTX on the P5N-E ran worse than a single GTX. SLI is no go on this board with 8800GTX's unfortunately.

An EVGA 750i with its full 2x PCIe x16 will definitely bring out the best of 2 GTX's in SLI and also get a much better clock out of you quad. I would seriesuly think about sending you 650i back!!

Just tried 8GB (4 x 2GB sticks Dual Channel Vista Upgrade Gold Series) on this board and it is a no go. The board will boot with 3 sticks but not 4, despite my best efforts. As I suspected really, just an experiment as these sticks are destined for an Intel P35 based board that I also have.

Anyone know how much manufacturing warranty this board has? my buddies board managed to fry its chipset a few days ago :( hes running a new p35 board and all the better for it but ive noticed a few places that still sell the item suggest 3 years manufacturing warranty so im looking into RMAing it . Asus doesnt list warranty periods on any of their products it seems.

Edit: just found out the place I bought it from before I sold it to my buddy provides 36 months RTB period :)

Hey there guys .... I'm upgrading to a dual core E8400 and need at least

Anyone know where I can download the 1001 bios?

Should I use the 1002 beta instead or use an earlier bios that supports the wolfdale cpu?

Thanks.
