** The Official ATI RV770/RV700 Series Review/Overclocking Thread **

That is with 3870's, reviews showed it was fine to crossfire those on P45.

However 4850's not many people have tried, and the one site that has showed a large drop in performance.

HeX, We all know You brought a X38, and I would think You now wished You would have had the much better P45 board but continually arguing in the light of much better information is not going to change Your situation. The 2x8 issue has been about the toughest thing I have ever had to find reliable data on !, I went My way and You went Yours ! but It's not about Us it's about helping the other Guys on here, If You read the Tweaktown article You would realise they are Muppets and not keep quoting it :p

Now that is unfair. Nobody including yourself has shown any links to anybody else running 4850's and 4870's in xfire on a p45 board at the same res and games Tweaktown used to disprove their figures.

Which bit do you think is unfair ? I posted My results

Your results were all for games and/or resolutions which aren't the games which showed the difference in Tweaktown review.

When I asked you to bench as a single and xfire at 1920 x 1200 with lots of aa or above in the games which Tweaktown used, you never came back with results.

Showing no change in 3dmark06 when Tweaktown showed no change proves what? They are right? You are right? WHo knows! ;)

What clocks have people been getting on the 4870's?

Max stable clocks I'm getting are just what CCC will allow me, which isn't really much, at least on the core anyway (790/4400). Looking forward to seeing what it can do when rivatuner or the like are updated with 4800 support.

When it comes to gaming this 4870 completely leaves my old-heavly clocked gts 512 in the dust, although I'm a tad suprised that it scored a few points less on 3d mark 06 (not the best benchmark to be running nowadays I know). I'll give Crysis a twirl and report back later.

Sorry, The setup is on the bench and also I've had a few issues with the Bios on the board so It has not Yet been built into My game system also Work and other things have got in the Way
I only have a 1600x1200 monitor for the test rig, that may limit me But I'll see If I can run something ;)
Like we talked about, I am still unsure about the efects of high res/aa on the Bus but still think It's the card's thats doing the work.

OK Asus P5Q-Delux [email protected] 2xHD4850@default

Crysis dx9 High 1900x1200
no aa.............42.73
4xaa...............23.47

3d2006 @ 1920x1200 = 17,957 sm2 7586 sm3 7849 no cpu score

I connected up a 24" monitor as Crysis scores are wrong in window mode

Intrestingly System Power is the same at 145W Desktop 280W max (3d2006, which is higher than crysis..load wise)

Seems to me the pcie2@ 8x8 is not an issue

Hope this Info helps You Guys, :)

Is the 4870 @ default clocks ?

Just swapped my heavily overclocked 8800GT for a 4870, initial results below (4870 at stock at the moment)

World in conflict (very high@1920x1200 av/min/max)
8800GT 21/10/41
4870 41/23/78

Vantage
8800GT p5545 h3492 x2143
4870 p7992 h5341 x3593

The ATI auto tune sets it to 780/1090 so I'll post again with o/c results later

Well in Crysis It's 1 fps faster than the 4850..that's a pointer for 1680x1050 Gamers, Whilst the 4870 is a all round better card if Your a 1 card type of person the 4850 will save You money and power If You just want to play Crysis @1680x1050 :D

I think We need to be benching these cards in better coded games at higher resolutions to really see their full ability
