This game continues to frustrate and yet I still keep playing it - that is a headline that sums up this release so well. When the battles work, you can have epic fights, the ebb and flow of a fight where each side is equally balanced, equally engaged and fire fights feel satisfying. Even the issues with some of the maps disappears from view when you and your team are surging towards a capture point, and meeting an array of armed enemy. this is something this game does well.
However, the game's lovely flow is often interrupted by either hitreg issues or a blatant imbalance of vehicles on infantry (100 kills from a little bird anyone?). I am not a good BF player, but I am able to hold my own. But this game, I can go from 28 kills and 15 deaths to a horrifying 10 kills and 18 deaths. Each round is just so unpredictable, where you pound an enemy in the head, expecting to have them drop dead, only for you to hear the dreaded "PAP" noise as you get hit with a magical bullet. Dead in one shot.
Yep, that is BF2042, moments of sublime followed by subpar netcoding that leaves you unable to ignore the flaws in this game.
And yet, I still play it - go figure!
