*** The Official Battlefield 2042 thread***

Is this worth picking up for single player only?
As in playing solo? Yeah, it's great for a solo player!

There's no offline, single player campaign if that's what you're asking - but you can play solo vs. AI/bots on the all out warfare & portal maps too.

Thanks, I'll skip it on that basis as I've got no interest in online games. :)

3.88GB patch incoming... DLSS has been updated to 3.1!

its not dlss3. It is still 2.5. They can't even get that right

"Hey there,
Just wish to set expectations here, that it is not going to be DLSS V3. We've done this to take some of the improvements and fixes in later versions while still using DLSS 2.5.
We have no current plans for DLSS 3, but we'll continue to look at it where improvements make sense"

Amazing to think the amount of reworks all these maps have had. BF has been out, what, 20 years? You'd think they'd know what works for BF by now....

It's a different team - all the old BF devs left and it shows. EA destroys another great franchise just like they did with Command and Conquer and Medal of Honour, in pursuit of the mighty dollar

Yeah it's a different team but you'd think they'd actually play some of the older games to get a flavour of the gameplay.
Obviously not though.
Bit like all these Hollywood screenwriters who don't seem to bother reading the books before writing the screenplay (tongue-in-cheek but you know what I mean :p)

Not quite. Apex Legends (a spin off from Titanfall) made EA so much money they directed Dice to do the same with Battlefield, with insufficient time to complete it, in addition to which the frostbite game engine is supposed to be incredibly difficult to program

DLSS3 is the frame generation aspect isn't it? That wouldn't make sense in a fast(ish) paced FPS game, fake frames would just add to input lag. I can see the appeal in single player games (looks great in the Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk) but I'm not sure it would feel all that great playing a fast paced shooting game with fake frame generation.

You know how there's always that one player on your squad that sits on the edge of the map with a sniper rifle and gets 1 kill after 15mins and does nothing else?
Well, my newest favourite trick is to drop Angels ammo crate on their head. Got one player in the same place 3 times the other night :p
Am I a troll? :D

Really not sure about the Hourglass remake, it feels very messy and just like a bit of deathmatch...

What do others think?

Feels like they got rid of the only good part on that entire map (stadium area) and now it's a bit of a generic, sandy map.

I like the underground area now towards the middle of the map and it feels like I can transition between points a bit easier - but definitely the weakest remake they've done.

This. They should have kept it the same but added B1, C1, D1 from 2.0 as it's a great action packed front if your working together moving up playing together as a team.

For breakthrough, They fixed the problem of getting stuck at first stage, and the problem of the long open desert as you approach the skyscrapers but it's still terrible, it's almost impossible to flank the objs in the middle as all flanks are open desert with no cover, so it's pretty miserable pushing through
