Its the respawning , its maybe due to its unforgiving nature I'm not getting and I think I might just be used to hand holding games, this is not a game that holds your hand. And it seems you're punished for taking stupid risks...

I'm glad the enemies respawn, simply as I'm burning through vials trying to take out a certain enemy, and I can go back to earlier areas and kill all the enemies again to try to get a few more vials. Saves having to pay for them anyway :)

Suspend mode isn't working for me in this game with online mode, game boots up to where I was instantly but then says it lost connection with the server and needs to return to the menu.

Not too fussed to be honest might just play in offline mode as I am trying to get through the game without summoning help for the first play through.

I think a testament to how good the game is that most here have nearly finished the game, I still haven't managed to kill the first boss and yet all I'm thinking about is how I'm going to differ my approaches later tonight.

I'm nowhere near to finishing the game, still not even faced the 3rd boss yet. Getting everything sorted for my holiday on Friday means I've not had anywhere near as much time with the game as I'd like. I was hoping to be one of the first to finish it but I think I'll end up being one of the last now.

Hardcore! I still aint got to the 1st boss lol

I finally managed the third boss, though I did need to call for help to get it done in the end.

I'm finding the bosses to be un-enjoyable though. I'm loving the exploration, and moving around new areas of the world after the third boss and finding secrets has been awesome, but I know when I come up against the next boss it'll just be another annoying slog, struggling with trying to kill them so I can get back to exploring.

Think this is going back to the shop, the first boss is to hard to enjoy this game I have unlocked the short cut and I go in with 12 blood veils and still fail soon as he picks me up and smashes me to the floor 4 times. Utter Gash, either I get a refund or I take my PS4 out into the garden and jump on it.

I've put a combined 8 hours in so far, and only just made it past the second boss, game is very hard, I think if I'd not got past the first boss I'd have nearly given up as it is bloody hard to get to grips with..

8 hours would see most AAA shooters minus mp mode over with even by my standards. Incredible. Anyone who got the game Fri and have now finished. Wow proper skills man.

I have when I quit last night got a huge number of echoes , so I'm going to spend those tonight before I lose um. After beating the second boss I realised I'd gone for the central lamp to the second boss and beat him without dying and amassed quite a few blood echoes. Used all my bullets and vials on the second boss mind.

You want to go to the left of that banging door and through to the area behind it.

Inside this spoiler within a spoiler (inception?) is a little tip for opening a shortcut
In this area, up top on the left hand side as you walk into it, there are lots of barrels you can break which allow you to drop down to some dogs in cages, go left from here after you drop down and it will allow you to open the gate near the lantern where you started from.

Good luck

Thanks!!! After I opened the shortcut I ended up getting lost!! Ended up confronting some ninja man/woman with 2 blades who made mincemeat out of me and ran into 2 of the huge brutes as well. Will need to take some notes and figure out a better way through the level!

The load times are really annoying me though!!

yeah the load times are ridiculous, the day one patch should have fixed it so god knows what they were like before release!!

They are working on another patch to fix load and performance issues.

And the game has some game breaking bugs in certain areas that a soon to be released patch is meant to fix...

Whatever happened to the older days when games were released working , seems this game has 1990 style hardcore no hand holding gameplay. With 2015 release issues needing patches.. Nice one..

Still, guess the long load times are incentive to not die?? Easier said then done with this game

yeah you expect the game broken on PC launches, but on a console they are supposed to work regardless, that why people buy consoles so they don't have the hassles of downloading fixes and upgrading parts everytime a new game is released :)

Played some of this over the last 3 days and still haven't made it past the first boss. Even though I played a lot of DS 1 and 2 this feels like a whole different level of hard. I'm enjoying it a lot but there are issues.

The load times are a problem. In DS 1 and 2 I'd happily have carried on plugging away death after death to progress. But having to wait what seems like an age after dying in this game is more frustrating, it's putting me off a little. I hope they fix this sharpish.

The game looks lovely but the performance is poor for what might be considered a system selling exclusive. There's the odd frame rate drop which is barely noticeable and forgivable but when I finally managed to summon help the frame rate dropped massively, it was horrible and on a par with Blight Town... Ugh.

On the subject of summoning help, well it's a bit hit and miss. The fact you use up insight regardless if you actually get the help you need has to be fixed. I've had a 33% success rate so far with summoning.

As I said I am enjoying the game in general despite the above issues and the fact I seem to be rather crap at it right now. I'm just having fun opening up the shortcuts and finding new items. I've yet to look at any guides so far so maybe that's why I'm struggling. Either you guys are just plain awesome or you've been sneakily looking at a guide or two ;) :p

when do you start upgrading weapons at first?
i know you can upgrade your stats after cleric :P

Yeah I'm struggling with upgrades. I have farmed some blood echoes to buy stronger outfits, and I also purchased for 3000 hard earned echo's the sword with hammer no idea on name.

But to upgrade weapons I found out you csnt use echoes you need blood stones.. Grrr.

I also upgrade to level 19 but the health bar hardly grew, I have found the best way to fight bosses is to have 20 blood vials before you start the fight and press triangle right after you get a whollop etc to keep health at close to 100%_ if it wasnt for blood vials I'd not have beaten the first two bosses.

I admitted using a guide for the first boss. I was ashamed to do it but in the end I had to. I was getting nowhere.

I am glad I did, as game has now opened up and apart from boss fights which I'm not enjoying the rest seems good. It's a rock hard game IMO.

At the start of the game I was getting an extra 5% hp per level which is pretty significant, you also get increased defence with every level up, every little helps :p . I've just hit the vitality softcap so i'm down to 2% hp per level, but its still the stat I will aim to increase the most when i've got the other stats where I want them.

Its interesting reading how differently people are finding the game, I for example have never needed to farm bullets or blood vials, I just always seem to have pretty much 20 all the time, although I rarely use them on normal mobs unless I get myself in a situation where I'm fighting more than I planned.

Likewise I havn't even noted the long load times but again I'm being pretty careful so have maybe died 5 or 6 times in total, currently have killed Cleric Beast and Gascoigne and wandering about after the gate you unlock with an emblem, but not encountered a 3rd boss yet. Providing shortcuts is also a big improvement which has made things more enjoyable as its now completely a choice to go and deal with enemies between boss attempts rather than forced.

Those tall mobs with ball and chains or axes are fairly under whelming, look like they are going to be trouble and yet have probably been the easiest thing to deal with yet, couldn't decide whether I was relieved or disappointed.

Again I'm sure Demon Souls experience is helping a lot, but still really enjoying this, definitely my favourite game on the current gen by a long long way.
