Roll the dice they are fighters for god sake. He took a shellacking in his last fight and still knocked him out in the last round. I’m all for fighters safety but c’mon let him have a chance.

He's a world champion and nothing up to that point suggested he was struggling. I think in those circumstances you get the chance to hold on and spoil for 10 secs.
As I hinted at in my first post, I was surprised the towel went in and wonder whether Wood's corner didn't realise that there was just 10 seconds left but I think he was getting laid out in those 10 seconds if the fight went on. The way he went down, I didn't think he was getting back up and he looked completely gone and wasn't going to be able to defend himself.
I’ve seen worse and I’ve seen countless fighters get knocked down and carry on. Fury should have been waved off on that basis against Wilder. Let him have a chance to fight his way out of it, the ref in theory should have walked Lara back over to his corner anyway, just a clinch and the bell gone.
I would be absolutely fuming if that happened to me.
Fury looked bad when he went down but bounced back up on his feet as if nothing had happened. Wood was staggering around and could barely lift his arms up.
The only reason why you wouldn't throw the towel in, in that situation was the amount of time that was left. Maybe he could have tied Lara up and saw out the 10 seconds but we'll never know. I'm not sure there's a right answer here - if the fight continued and Lara sparks Wood out then people are saying the fight should have been stopped after the first knockdown. The fight gets stopped and people are saying he should have been allowed to continue. His corner is better placed to decide than we are but as I initially said, maybe they didn't know how long there was left.

it was a very heavy knock down to be fair, Wood had that half gone look even a while after the fight was stopped.
he was winning the fight, i had a feeling he would win but that shot was world class.
i hope to see a rematch with Wood and not another fight with Josh " the headbutting cheat " Warrington.

Wood got straight up a given a few seconds he too could have regained his senses. The majority of referees would’ve waved Fury off, it took a brave yet correct decision from ref to allow Fury to even get to his feet.
No one knows what would’ve happened and he certainly stood a better chance without the towel going on that’s for sure. As pointed out he was the champion and well up in the fight to warrant a delay to wait and see how he would’ve defended himself. He was denied that opportunity.
Your comparison with Fury is a bit odd - Fury got up and looked absolutely fine, as if nothing had happened. Wood looked like he was going to fall straight back down.
I have no desire to get into an endless debate with you again, especially as you seem to think I'm saying it should have been stopped, when I've not said that so for clarity, I was surprised the towel went in. However, I don't believe Wood would have survived the 10 seconds had it gone on. Imo he appeared completely gone and Lara was just going to wind up a big shot without much defence from Wood.

Better to stop a fight one punch too early than one punch too late
No way should Wood of been allowed to carry on,he was doing a little dance with his hands down as he was walking to the ref.Lara would have put even more into his shots,and it would have probably ended up with Wood in hospital

Fury was composing himself before getting up. Maybe even dramatized it a bit.
Opinions are opinions. I thought the corner was silly to stop it so close to the bell. Wood is a tough cookie and even though he was hit with a heavy shot he had the chance in the World to carry on until the bell.
His reaction to the corner the corner throwing it in told you he was happy to continue, the ref showed no signs of stopping the fight. If he was behind on the score cards and had taken a pasting I’d understand, but a single, although heavy shot isn’t enough to stop it.
But anyway what’s done is done, Wood should push for an immediate rematch because he had him beat.

Feel bad fit Wood last night. He could've swerved this fight and I thought he was stupid to try it, but I respected his balls. As the fight went on I had him up winning and he was making Lara look average and clueless. Seemed like he knew what to do to cruise to a points win.....
Then Lara did what Lara does. Poor choice by the corner especially considering how Wood won his last fight against conman. I've not really liked Ben as a trainer and feel his fighters regress under him more than anything but that was a poor choice.

Actually just watched the highlights again mostly to see the stoppage now the excitement of fight night has dialled down. Ben, as much as I still don't like him, was right to stop Wood there. Even when he was holding him in the corner he looked shaky.
Still gutted for wood though as he was dealing with Lara and I say that as someone expecting Lara to have got him the hell out of there really quickly and after the first round I thought my prediction was going to be correct. Lara is a menace but he does not like getting hit in the body. Looks like one of the fighters with a solid chin but suspect to body shots and also maybe stamina issues.

Great shot and a good call from the corner - he could barely stand after the count and another shot like that would have done some serious damage.
I've no issue with the stoppage there - I think that's a good call. Better to have your fighter sorting out the rematch rather than waking up in hospital this morning...
