Stoppage came slightly earlier than expected but no real surprise there. Can't believe Hearn was saying this was a 50/50 fight. Then again he is Smith's promoter so, slack cut.

Time to get Beterbiev vs Bivol on now.
 
Got what he deserved for trying to fight fire with fire rather than staying on the outside. Ego got the better of him imo.

Beterbiev vs Bivol isn't a fight I'm that interested in, hate Bivol's style so hope Beterbiev ruins him before retiring.

Beterbiev vs Bivol doesn't excite you? I bet you're a big power slap fan.
 
Smith's a good but not elite level boxer, did a bit worse than Yarde did imo.

Beterviev and Bivol need to stop dancing around one another and just fight there’s no other fights for them.

Also if they could get Yarde v Smith on for a bit of a domestic dust up on non PPV I’d be well up for that.

Lets see Bivol next for him.

Good effort by Smith but he was out of his depth here, Also would like to see Yarde v Smith as Pyscho Ned has suggested.
 
You guys are right, Yarde vs Smith would be a decent domestic scrap. You’d have to favour Smith on ability over Yarde but Yarde can whack so it would be who can take who’s best.

Not sure Smith would want that fight though. Doesn’t offer much to him in victory or defeat

Yeah his accuracy was really evident in that fight. It doesn’t look like he’s throwing much but when he does, he connects and he connects hard.

Watched the highlights.
It went as I expected. Smith just isn't at the top level. He showed more heart than I thought he might but he was getting beaten up badly and it was a good corner intervention.
Not sure what there is for Smith. Azeez or Buatsi? Not really a big enough fight yet. I think he might pack it in. I don't think he's a crowd puller so hard to imagine Hearn doing much with him now.
Beterbiev was hugely impressive for a 38yo. I've not seen much of Bivol but that seems to be made and is the fight everyone wants to see in the division.

My only Bivol reference is the Canelo fight. Canelo fights a bit like Beterbiev in the sense that he is a pressure fighter and Bivol handled that really well but I think this was helped by the size difference. Canelo ain't really a 175lb fighter in my opinion and as such his power didn't translate, his pressure was resisted by sharp countering and good movement. Smith couldn't keep Beterbiev off him at all and had few counters despite being a physical match on paper. I saw someone earlier in the thread say they don't like Bivol's style but I think he is a clever fighter and will give a good account. However, the big difference is in power, Bivol doesn't really seem to Ko people at the top level. Beterbiev is 100% KO.

It looks like a draw!
 
Beterbiev is definitely not what he was, but he seems defensively a little better. I think this could make him even more dangerous in the middle rounds. Smith just didn’t have to deal with him. The way to beat him seems clear, but I’m not sure Bivol has the tools either.
