Scrivz! Is that you from "...the other PC hardware retailer forum thats now basically dead and rhymes with harrier"?

EDIT: Ok one thing that is putting me off a bit, no USB-C port, does anyone know if it supports fast charging on micro usb? I cant seem to find anything definate.

Also, I asked, and the seller on the big river is saying it does not work on 800mhz and therefore will not get 4g on o2, yet another seller (£20 more expensive) says it will, so either a difference in models, or the sellers dont know what they are talking about?

Reviews do look great though, but lack of fast charge/usb-c is a big deal for me might be a deal breaker if I am honest.

There's a youtube video (Top video after searching Redmi 5 Plus Fast Charging Test) showing a depleted Redmi 5 plus go from 0% battery to 63% in 1 hour (100% in just under 2 hours) using a QC power brick, the phone also recognises that it's using QC. It does not look like the Redmi 5 plus comes with a QC power brick in the box.

It is mate, I do get about a bit lol. You need to buy the global version with band 20 and not the Chinese one, as for fast charging I don't have a fast charger so not sure mate.

Have a read of the different versions here. http://en.miui.com/thread-1827734-1-1.html , the global version is MEG7

Was very tempted, but decided to go for the Moto Z2 play instead.

The z2 has Moto mods, one of which is a battery which effectively gives you something like a 6300mah battery, its also clever and works seemlessly with the phone, so for example you don't need to charge them separately, and it has an efficiency mode that keeps the main battery at 80% which causes less wear.

The battery mod will also accept up to 6a (ok granted good luck finding a charger that'll do that) but it'll charge the phone at 3a and battery at 3a simultaneously from one cable.

Both my now deceased nexus 5x and the misses phones both use usb-c so would need to get new cables for the redmi, and means we couldn't share those.

The Z2 has an unskinned version of android with minimal bloatware.

Possibly??? Better support from Llenovo.

The misses has one and I like it, the screen has really nice colour depth, the all metal chassis is nice.

More expensive, definitely, but should get £240 back for the dead nexus so total package is effectively going to cost me £115.

No doubt though, that redmi 5 is a great phone, it has a bigger screen, smaller bezel at the top and bottom, larger (unmodded) battery, and much cheaper. If it had usb-c charging I would have got it instead.

Well lads, I've ordered a Redmi note 5 pro global edition. I'll see if I prefer it to my Nokia 7 plus. If yes, I'll keep it and return the Nokia. If no, I'll put it on the market place for zero profit.

https://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/

All 4 of the operators in the UK operate at 800MHz.

EE
800MHz (4G) 1800MHz (2G & 4G) 2100MHz (3G) 2600MHz (4G)

O2
800MHz (4G) 900MHz (2G & 3G) 1800MHz (2G) 2100MHz (3G)

Vodafone
800MHz (4G) 900MHz (2G & 3G) 1800MHz (2G) 2100MHz (3G) 2600MHz (4G)

Three
800MHz (4G) 1800MHz (4G) 2100MHz (3G)
That's slightly out of date now, as O2 have 4G on 2300MHz now as well.

Redmi Note 5 Pro global version, does it even exist?

Yes. Plenty for sale on likes of Ali Express but bare in mind the 'Pro' is for India only. The non-Pro is the Chinese/Global version which is exactly the same phone.

well I got whichever version supports band 20. There's so many different versions I've inevitably gotten it wrong.

Got link to exact one you ordered? Some sellers list B20 and some don't.

Where are you geeting the Moto Z2 Play from? I can't see any reputable UK sellers.

Don't.........

I ordered it from Amazon but through a seller. Thing has turned up, bloody Italian model. Alarm bells rang when I felt more than one item in the package, was a UK plug adapter. Box states Italian model, and although I chose english when setting up the phone, the android system information is also in Italian, charger lead european. I also suspect the phone had already been opened and although the shrink wrap was on it, the sealing tape had already been broken.

It did pick up 4G so in theory should all work but not happy. I double checked the Item description and definately states UK phone.

Filed a return request, although I have now opened the box and I suspect the seller knew it was an Italian model so I am concerned they might try and get out of giving the refund. we'll see... cheeky buggers though.
