**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

Rumours that there is a Note 8T coming with a Snapdragon rather than Mediatek. Not sure I can wait that long and tempted to pay the difference and just go the Mi 9T as my Mi 5 is struggling to make ends meet these days.

@King4aDay where from? Closest I can find on eglobal is £250.

Was an ebay seller in Switzerland for £258 less 10% with the ebay code which has now expired.

The 9t pro has the faster sd 855 chip while the 9t has the the slower sd730.
Some other small differences like faster charging and slightly better camera on the pro.
You can't go wrong with either really.

I orderd a Mi 9T pro 6GB / 128GB from Eglobal a couple of weeks ago for £298, it just arrived today and it is my wife's chistmas present. I must admit it feels like a premium phone and looks gorgeous in the glacier blue colour. I have just done a basic setup on the phone so I could update the Miui to the the latest version and I must admit I am very, very impressed. My day to day phone is a Samsung S9 amd I will not be buying another expenive flagship phone again. Ok, the screen isn't as good as the 3K screen on my S9 but the MI9T Pro out performs it everywhere else.

Out of curiosity, are most of these phones a case of well-priced hardware with an average or poor software experience? Personally I wouldn't feel like I'd got a bargain if I was having to put up with the software.

the smaller brands usually run near-stock android.. the larger(xiaomi/oppo etc) run their own skinned version of android which usually is very stable and polished.

big market presence in china/india etc results in decent software even at our "smaller" market.

The Redmi 7a looks a great value product, I have noticed the prices are dropping now due to the launch of the Redmi 8a. I might try and pick up a 7a as a cheap backup phone.

The longer I sit there just wondering through it the more bit's I find - it doesn't have fingerprint and don't think the cameras are that good and it's a bit smaller than my Honor 8X but for a back up, £68 from gearbest was a good buy for me.

I dug up a couple of reviews (9T Pro and Honor 20) and the were both apparently riddled with bloatware. I'm not saying that will bother most people, particularly if it all works well, but the review said it was there. I'm not an Android purist by any stretch but I'd definitely prefer these cleaner versions that you mention from the smaller brands.

Custom ROMs are always an option too if you're concerned about bloatware (need boot loader unlocked first). I have quite a few Xiaomi domains blocked in PiHole which also helps.

On the topic of ROMs, what current ones are people using? I'm currently trialing Pixel Experience on my Mi 5 to see if battery life is any better but I think that battery itself is at fault. 1 hr 30 of screen use since I took it off charge this morning and I'm currently at 45% remaining. Hopefully I can get my Mi 9T soon.

The Redmi 7a has arrived from Ebay, and for under £80 it isn't bad at all. The 8 core processor seems up to job of running Android, I have requested the bootloader unlock and it will take 168hrs to be authorised! The global rom seems ok but does have a lot of Xiaomi apps in there. Does switching to EU rom get rid of most of the bloatware?

The global rom is the EU rom. What rom does your phone say it is running? Without being rooted you could use a launcher to hide them. The unlock bootloader request usually only takes 24-48 hours.
