**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

For some reason the 7A isn't listed as part of the 7 series family on the MIUI download page. There looks to be a global 10.3.5.0 available which MIUI should find and install for you but you can do it manually by saving to local device and then do upgrade via settings -> update -> select zip from from local storage but you'll still have Xiaomi bloatware. Once your bootloader is unlocked you could use TWRP to wipe /dalvik /system /data and /cache then flash the newest rom and Magisk/SuperSU to give you root which should then give you the option to remove the Mi apps.

There are people on here who can help with the above (like replacing Recovery with TWRP) but do some research on the procedure as it can be quite daunting the first time you flash a phone as you can brick it.

Went to the Mi store in London the other week to look at the phones (as I was down there anyway for work). Was very tempted by the 9t pro and probably could have been convinced to buy one then and there but the staff seemed to be completely disinterested in dealing with the customers and instead were spending all their time chatting or zooming around on electric scooters. Most of the time there were more staff than customers in the store but only at one point did a member of staff actually talk to any of them.

Still tempted but not sure about the drop in screen size (I'm using a Huawei mate 20x).

Has one looked at 'Realme' brand before? Look to be a rival to Xiaomi based on design, specs and price.

Yes, me. I've been holding out hoping that my current ancient phone's steam powered battery lasts until the X2 Pro is released in Europe, and if that comes in a tad too expensive for my taste then standard X2 is still a damn decent phone and released on the same day (15th October).

My Xiaomi unlock timeout of 168hrs completed today, so I flashed phone to 10.2.5 eu version using the Mi Flash and relocked the bootloader loader again. I must admit I have got on OK with MIUI 10 over the past week and I don't miss the app drawer at all. Just set the phone up again as a clean install, I must admit for the price paid it is decent bang for buck. It is a pity they have just brought out the Redmi 8A after the 7A went on sale in June.

I to have looked about a year ago. They are Oppo's sub brand I think. They do look excellent value for money. The X2 looks a nice phone and the pro could be superb if priced well. Just don't really know much about their OS skin. Whereas Xioami and it's miui are a known quantity to many of us now.

9T on the way, replacing a MiA1 I've had since launch (there's nothing actually wrong with the MiA1, I just fancied a change)
Arrived from Banggood with no duty & tax charges.

It's VERY nice. Mine is actually a K20, I've got some default Chinese apps in there but I managed to find and install all the Google/Play services.
Feels like much more than a £240 phone.

I'm not surprised it feels like much more than that considering the specs it has. I'm sure it will be a fantastic phone at an extremely good price. When I had my old redmi note 3 that was good for the money at the time. Only thing I didn't like was that it seemed a little aggressive turning off some apps and I wouldn't get notifications on email and texts sometimes. That's probably been ironed out nowadays.

Still no Band 20 either for some of these new Chinese releases such as the above ^^^ which is also a shame, quite lot out there at the moment coming out from Oppo, Realme, VIVO, Xiaomi etc.

Been entertaining the idea of finally retiring my second OnePlus 5T in favour of the Mi 9T soon... though as much as I really like it, I do think at this stage that pop up cameras are just the stepping stone to the more sought after in-screen cameras which I'm confident are now on the horizon for release early next year, knowing my luck if I bite the bullet on the Mi 9T then a new flagship such as the following will come along!

Liam.

Gutted. Was really going to go for a X2 Pro, but they haven't included a memory card slot and that's a deal breaker for me. Guess I'll just have to go with the standard X2 then.

EDIT: Actually, would it be possible to plug a USB-C flashdrive in and play music from that via the phone or do the music files have to be dragged across to the phone for some reason?

Miui 11 has been released today in India as per info on the Xiaomi forums, I checked the updates on my cheap Redmi 7A and lo and behold Miui 11 - 11.0.2PCMEUXM was available on my phone via OTA download. Download was 681MB and has the September security updates as well, all installed ok.
