**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

Just wondering if anyone has used a site called merimobiles? If so how did you find them. Seem's ok from some reviews I've read on trust pilot but never really sure about what I read on that site. Cheers

no i bought it from Huawei Greece, i live in Greece. For 200 quid, i have a 2 year warranty plus a 14 day DOA warranty. I am setting it up and its fast too.

It remindes me of a HTC phone but with a far superior camera.

Just updated mine to Marshmallow if you dont want to wait for the OTA.
http://consumer.huawei.com/es/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=72708

Just extract the zip and copy the dload folder to phone.
Then update via local.
Mine through a wobbler at around 70% but rebooted and its now on 6.0

OK been using the Redmi 3 (non-note) for a good few days now.

It's unbelievably slippy. Have ordered a silicone case for it.
Battery life is great. Two days high usage easily.
It charges very slow. Not a problem for me as I just charge it overnight.
Camera is really fast at taking pics but I think this has a negative effect on picture quality. I would prefer it to focus a little longer.
Whatsapp notifications don't come through until I open whatsapp. Fairly sure this is the battery optimiser but still testing.
Speakers are LOUD but fairly tinny.

Overall pretty chuffed with it:)

Glad to hear you're enjoying the phone, I've had a busy week so haven't had chance to fully look at mine (also ordered from HonorBuy, which was ridiculously quick service). Haven't bothered to try messing with ROMs or anything - works well out of the box with Google Play working with all apps I've tried, done an OTA update too - so didn't want to mess.

Few Chinese apps but nothing that gets in the way of normal use.

Have you done the update? Mine's now on 7.1.2.0.

Would also be interested if anyone knows a good way of looking for Themes as the app is a little difficult to use with all the Chinese text!

Going to spend the rest of the day exploring the phone's features :D

yeah running 7.1.2.0.

hmm definitely an issue with whatsapp background data. If I open whatsapp it downloads a bunch of messages from the past few minutes, even with battery optimiser disabled.

Hmmmm. I haven't installed WhatsApp yet but I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Just given it a quick Google and seems a few have experienced similar.

Where did you order case in the end? I have two on the way from Aliexpress...

Cool, let me know how it works. Are you planning on switching to the global rom when that's available?

I don't know what the differences are. If there's nothing notable then I'll stick to the Chinese rom and avoid having to reinstall all my apps.

I still definitely have an issue with app background data. I can't load up web whatsapp without waking my phone first.

Can anyone recommend me a Chinese phone for £100-£150? I'm coming from a HTC One M7 which has been awesome and still is other than the battery lasting a quarter of a day now lol

Edit: I'm with 3 if that's important in terms of support

This question was asked a bit earlier in this thread, and a popular answer was the Xiaomi Redmi 3 ... have you checked this particular model out yet?

yeah that one looks really good especially the battery life. Is it recommended to get it from a certain store? Honorbuy sells it for $160 for EU stock so no import fees but can get from the bay at £130

Well 160 dollars is only about £115, so that look like the cheaper option, but I have not actually used them myself, although there was a good report on them earlier.

Perhaps another member can advise you better here?
