Hi easyrider.

Thanks for the help,
just to keep you updated, its running in the daytime at 54 degrees idle.
id imagine that would rise to about 65 loaded using orthos.
(although its been hot here today !)
so i dont really want to push it too much with summer coming up.
also, ive not got a fan on the northbridge, just an antec spot cooler directed at it on full whack..ill have to get my fingers in there and see if its too hot to handle.

congrats on your clock, gotta admit im pretty jealous !

...i may try to get it up to 3.2 ghz but as i say im pretty worried about the temps, i dont wanna fry anything, so i may have another late night and try it when its cooler

Enjoy your 3ghz mate.

3ghz C2D is plenty. ;)

First time OCing any kind of INTEL chip for me, so far so good :) Not upped the volts yet, only running the stock cooler. Are my voltages seeming a little high? Not entirely sure what stock should be for one of these.

E6750/e6850 anyone got one yet i am tempted to sell my 6420 and get one
don't like the quads they run too hot awaiting to see the GO stepping quad results with much anticipation.

3ghz should be easily achieveable on air with a Q6600 and a nice after market cooler.

Hi guys

I got a cheap E6600 and lapped it and popped it in my Gigabyte DS3R board along with a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme cooler with a 120mm fan on.

Here my 3.6ghz Orthos stable shot, Only thing is that I'm pumpin 1.58vcore through it to get this and the temps are 45 idle and upto 60/2 on load  are these safe to do? I can boot into 3.8ghz and work in windows but Orthos fails straight away. My 5300 2gb Ballistix is at 1:1

Any pointers would be cool thanks ;)

I'm trying to decide between an E6850 and Q6600. It's very hard to choose between them, since the E6850 is better at games, but the quad rules in most other things. Then again, new games might start catering for multiple cores and then the Q6600 could be the better gaming option too.
Hmmm, it's a tough call...

I have had 3 c2d's: 1 run at 1.5875 and the others at 1.62 24/7. None suffered any ill effects and are all working fine to this day. Obviously the more vcore you use and the more heat they create will shorten there life so if you plan on keeping them for like 20 years then you should consider lowering the vcore, if like me you upgrade regulary then sit back and enjoy your overclock m8y.

Apologies for jumping in, just wondering if I could grab a hand of help.

I've attempted overclocking but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.

E6600. 1GB RAM.

I've got my FSB @ 300 and set FSB & RAM at a 1:1 ratio. The RAM is now running at 533mhz as opposed to 667mhz.

My mobo is an Intel 975x and the RAM is DDR2 5300.

The only reason I'm asking is because I'm with stock cooling at 2.71Ghz and the test usually fails around 30 seconds with Orthos. So I'm stuck, Windows seems stable.

Anything you can guys can suggest?

Cheers.
