***The Official Core i5 Overclocking Thread***

I would check the volts then, as [H]ard|OCP found auto put the volts up pretty high.

I've dropped mine back to BCLK 190 which is 3.8GHz at 1.4v and dropped the other volts down so they are a little higher than stock but not as much as I was using yesterday to try and get 4GHz stable.

Which volts? The declared vCore in CPUz is 1.38V and that's confirmed by my AVO - 1.37V), so the VCore doesn't look high at all compared to what some others are using.

I don't think the LLC works at all on this board.

Do you know how they were checking them? - AVO says 1.635V on the RAM at the moment, which is fine as they are running slightly loose and outside their rated speed.

Anyone got a gigabyte mobo to test?

Also how quick before they bring a new i5 revision out?

How long was it for D0 variant i7 to arrive?

Easy
I would have thought that the tweaks Intel made during the C0 to DO revision of the i7 would already be in the i5.

I assume he means when is i5 v1.1 going to come out, ie the second public stepping of the chip.
I'm going to be replacing my machine in a month but I'm wary of buying version 1.0 of a product like this...

what exactly is wrong with this stepping?

We've seen 4.2Ghz on simple air. Seriously how much are people expecting out of these chips??

No idea. Whoever said they are meant to do 5GHz... I've never seen that reported before. From what I read before, most should hit 4GHz with good air cooling or water cooling and upwards of that if lucky / even better cooling.

33-35c idle, 69-72c load

Thats with the fan speeds on the cooler and rear set to 'standard' in the BIOS so they are quiet when idle and power up a bit under load (still pretty quiet though).

Yeah not too bad. Just testing at 3.8GHz to see what sort of volts are needed.

The only one I'm confused over is "VTT" which isn't listed on the Asus. I basically have VCore, Mem, IMC (mem controller on chip yes?), CPU PLL (some other new bit on the chip?), PCH (chipet?) but I see VTT mentioned which I thought to begin with was called IMC on the Asus but I noticed someone said them both earlier so not sure now..
