How come your I7 930 GFlops is lower on both IBT and LinX compared to my 920 @ 4.2 OC?

Dont know somebody else asked me that also,i do not know.
i have noticed on other forums, stability tests, that some people have around 35 some 45 some 55 some 65 gflops.

Prime 95

I reckon i could take this chip even higher with HTon but my ram may fail as im already running 1600 mhz at 1644,(i have a few bios tricks left yet that may work)but i know the cpu has lots more potential, once i push for the max with HTon i will then try Htoff and see what i get.
I might upgrade my ram but i dont think its worth it tbh.

Will post update of prime 95 stability when i do it.

So far so good, have found Overclcoking this chip relatively easy tbh,no major probs:D

Your specs denotes that 4.5 is peanut. Go for it man. Go where no air cooling can. Mine can even do 4.4. See here. I'm just trying to stabilize the voltages before I'll bench it.

4.5 is gonna be tough with HTon, reckon i could go 4.4 though but i think my ram will let me down,i cannot loosen the timings either as its cas 9,i do know that i have a good chip(batch) as a guy on XS achieved similar performance to me with slightly less voltage before i purchased my chip.the guy on XS is using 2000mhz ram and he is running at 4.3,maybe if i changed my ram i might be in with a shot, but with 1600 i dont think it will happen, ill give it a try for 4.4 soon once i have prime 95'd 4.3 tonight while i sleep.

Just put your ram on auto and add some juice to PCIE and northbridge. That's how I loosen my ram, though, that 4.4 Fritz Chess bench is running on specs.
By the way, i'm using this ram OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8. Here's the max I could get on air but not benchable. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=742047 and that's with HT on.

ok thanks ill keep that in mind mate, once i go for 4.4...just have to run the ALMIGHTY prime 95 first overnight at 4.3 for my own peace of mind;)

can you lower the cpu pll voltage? i can get mine to 1.3v at 4 ghz

I wouldn't put your CPU PLL voltage that low, as it can damage the CPU suprisingly, look at this Intel spec, notice how it's the only under voltage that can damage the CPU:

http://i4memory.com/f55/intel-core-...oltages-uncore-memory-frequency-ratios-23430/

Look at "Core i7 900 series"

After doing some reading it seems to be a voltage that kind of regulates how the signals are sent, so if the voltage is too low I am guessing although your CPU may be "stable", the signals could be sent in an "unsafe manner" :(.

did not do prime overnight, did it today while around the house, did 5 hours woulda done longer but want to use my pc now

Had to up the volts a bit to get it prime stable compared to IBT,Occt and Linx...this is why i use all of them for stability.

Man 4.3 is doable on air cooling. I just did a 3 hour run of P95 and it's running fine with slackenned memory at 9-9-9-24. I Did'nt run IBT and LinX as i'm not comfortable with mid 80'ish temps.

That's a hell of a nice OC mate, I bet if you could tweak it and push the frequency you could even get 4.4GHz :) One thing though, you have a whopping 11C range from your 1st-4th core at maximum temperature, you sure the thing is seated properly?

Hi pals.

My first Intel chip after 10/11 years of AMD is being delivered Monday. It's an i7 930 D0 on the Gigabyte X58A mobo and 6Gb Corsair 12800 tri-channel. I also got the H50 to cool it off :)

I've never overclocked an Intel before so am looking for advice or a really stable 4Ghz template I can copy.

Don't worry. Once you've got all your stuff set up, just post in here with a scrennie and for sure the OC guru's here will help you maxed out your CPU.:D

Alright, I'm all set up and my CPU is reading 33c in Bios but I have no software to monitor temps in Windows.

Are the screenshots you need of my CPUZ CPU and Memory tabs?

Right now CPUZ is showing core voltage at 0.928v, seems low, but I am an Intel noob.

Started overclocking yet? Do a 20 run on both LinX and or Intel Burn Test on stock settings to determine your stock temps first before you start overclocking to serve as your comparison base.
