***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

Thanks for the help. Another odd problem I have is that even at 3Ghz when I run Orthos my mouse and keyboard just stop working but Orthos carrys on. :(

Weird.

What about the memory settings it's using by default or have you set them manually in the BIOS? For 320 x 10 I imagine it'll be 3-3-3-12 on auto but I rememeber a while back about a new BIOS with CL3 support but I expect yours will have at least that version of the BIOS.

I'd set the timings to 5-5-5-15 for now anyway if you haven't already and see how it goes. Also when it reboots it might be blue screening so best to disable reboot after a blue screen so you can see what type of blue screen it is.

well i just built a secondry pc for the missus.

got a few old bits like an evga 680i, geil pc6400ul 2gb, a maxtor 80gb ide, acf7p

added an antec 4480b with 380w psu, a 7300tc and of course a e2140

so it cost me £130 and i clocked it up to 2.2ghz, should do her for t'net and keep her of mine ;)

will have more of a play when i get a min see if i cant get 3 ghz

Its currently set at 4-4-4-12 so I will check to see if 5-5-5-15 will help. The werid thing is it never reboots or bluescreens just freezes as in nothing I press will bring it back to life.

I did a search and seems others have had a similar freezing problem and it got fixed by increasing the cpu vtt, ich, mch voltages a notch or two. So looks like that should sort it.

Do you have any information on how high other people increased the other voltages. As I tried putting them up and it did help let Orthos run longer but it still freezes.

Stock:
CPU VTT - 1.2
MCH - 1.25
ICH - 1.05
ICHIO - 1.5

At stock it lasted 11 seconds before freezing. I then increased it to:

CPU VTT - 1.27
MCH - 1.33
ICH - 1.12
ICHIO - 1.7

At these voltages it lasted 36 minutes.

I can't find the link again and I've reformatted as I've been testing a Gigabyte P35-DS3 so I couldn't even look in the cache. :(

I would increase the MCH the most and leave ICHIO at stock as that wasn't mentioned.

Also the Gigabyte P35-DS3 is doing 400 FSB no problem without having to touch any of the motherboard voltages but I guess it could be the stock settings are higher compared to the IP35 Pro.

Thanks. I seemed to have found my problem it seems that the latest CPU-Z has a problem with the IP35-PRO in which in causes the computer to freeze.

When I was running orthos I was using CPU-Z to monitor the CPU voltages so it may have been causing it to crash. I left Orthos running for 1hr and it was fine so going to try lowering the CPU voltages to see if I can get it stable.

Good choice of board. :)

I got one today and it's running my E2140 with a 100% overclock and 4GB ram:

The DIMM at the bottom of the Everest Ultimate window in the above screenshot shows the memory voltage.

Thanks for telling me about the volt thingy :)

Nice 100% overclock str! I can get my E2160 at 3400 but RAM won't do 5:6 then at 4-4-4-12 and I need pretty high vcore. Seems like you've got yourself a nice CPU there!

Thanks! :D

I know what you mean about memory mine is only PC2-5300 with slack timings but I'll be buying some Ballistix 8500 soonish when I have some cash to spare and will see how high it'll go with it.

Hi, first post here.

I love my M0 stepping E2140, just because it's outrageous :)

400x8, 1.29v, Orthos stable at 60C on small FFTs, stock HSF.

Abit IP35-Pro
vmch at 1.44v
Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1000 5-5-5-15 at DDR2-800 4-4-4-15 2.1v

I'm now rebuilding my Vapo rig with an Asus P5k3 and Cellshock DDR3-1800. I was going to fling my G0 Q6600 straight in there, but now I'm going to play with the E2140 in there first (and my E6700, for interest). I know I'll end up selling the E2140 with my XBX mobo, but must see what sub-zero does to it first. :D

Is that voltage setting taking vdrop into account ? or is that the bios setting, if so that chips awsome could have a lot of potential.

My E2140 is on 400*8, but can only manage it at ~1.4-1.45v (forgoten exact settings).

What temps you getting ?

That's with the vdroop, it's 1.31v in the BIOS. It peaks at 60C with the stock cooler. I think that under the Vapo, FSB might be the only limiting factor. I won't get a chance at it until later this week now, can't wait!

I guys.

Trying to overclock my E2140 here. At the moment I'm at 1.72Ghz. Just changed the speed from 200 to 215Mhz.

First time doing this. How do I go about this? I managed to get system to boot at 266 (2.12Ghz) But it POSTS, however it won't boot into Windows Vista. :(
