***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

Yeh, read a guide a bit better before you run through it all, theres a few good ones in the overclocking forum.

Can't really help much more without knowing details of RAM & MB.
Well I have got it from 1.6Ghz to 1.92Ghz..Memory at 240Mhz..(or is the CPU FSB??)
Thats the FSB speed, so both the speed of the RAM (x2 to get whats stated) and the processor speed (multiply by the multiplier number(8 in your case)).

Turn off auto ram setting, which probably keeps the ram runnning faster than fsb. Would help if u said what mobo ** using and rest of specs too.
Make sure you know all your RAM timing's and speeds it can reach before doing this though.

Oh, I'm sorry I forgot about that.

Tell me, would my E6300 be better in here then this E2140?

I've kept the memory at 533 and changed to FSB of CPU and sitting at 2.Ghz...
Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 motherboard. The RAM is DDR2 667 2 x 1GB sticks both same make/speed Apogee (chaintec) I think. :)

cool, keep us posted. You should happily see 3ghz tbh

Im using an abit ab9 pro mobo, i faffed about upping a tiny bit at a time, got bored, then slapped the fsb to 333mhz

set the ram to cpu ratio at 1:1 with the ram working at 333mhz

left everything else on Auto (ie cpu voltages ram voltages etc....) but for refrence im using 1.325v cpu & 1.8v ram

Worked a treat from then on in, with a cheapo thermalright heatsink and fan.

Maybe you don't have the M0 revision core. The M0 is known for better overclocking, but to be honest, that overclock is really low. You should be able to get more out of that chip even if it's not a M0 revision core. Maybe the 945 chipset is holding it back or your FSB:RAM ratio is not set correctly.

To check if it's a M0 download cpu-z and look in the CPU tab under "Revision".

To check your ratio of FSB : DRAM, goto the Memory tab and look at Ratio :) I think yours should be either 1:1 or 3:2

This and the Q6600 thread should be stickied imo :) Lots of useful information in here.

Got the E2140 to 2.24Ghz. Cant seem to push it more, as I think I am doing something wrong..:9 My E6300 has got to 2.38Ghz. Goes into Windows at 2.41Ghz but is unstable. :(
The 945 chipset isn't all that well known to be a good clocker for modern CPUs and the GA-945GCMX-S2 isn't designed to be much of an overclocker either. According to Gigabyte their "2" range of motherboards aren't supposed to be very overclockable it's their "3" or higher range that are.

If you had a newer motherboard I'm sure both your CPUs would likely overclock much much further.

well you earn something new every day, i didnt realise there was that much of a difference between the chipsets gigabyte use.

Im glad i went with the non-conventional Abit AB9 pro 965 chipset, more stable than a thing you keep a horse in.......

I opened CPU-Z, says my E6300 is a B2 stepping and memory is at 4:5 ratio. How do I change the memory settings?
Depends on your MB, but theres generally some settings you can change in the BIOS.
What MB do you have ?
