***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

iKettles, tomshardware and I personally had to put it over 1.5v vcore to get it stable at 3.2Ghz so it's not really strange that you can't get it working at 1.375? :) There is a big vcore increase between 3.0Ghz and 3.2Ghz it seems... I'm using a scythe infinity aswell btw! Do you sometimes have the feeling it is so big that it is pulling to hard on downwards because of gravity?

My E2140 runs at 1.45 at 3.2ghz compared to 1.35 at 3ghz, so it is a bit of a voltage hike up, but if youve put that much voltage through it and seen nothing its time to call it a day and assume it has a fsb wall imo.

Ello chaps.

Bit of a problem overclocking my E2140.

(Bit of background, been out of the overclocking game for yonks, used to be heavily into it, P1MMX 233 @ 290, K63 overclocked, the good old celeron no Cache at overclock, etc)

here's what CPU-Z is giving me at my most stable (and rather pathetic overclock)

System can boot up at 240 FSB...but then my Ralink PCI wireless card wont work properly (picks up networks, wont do anything with them)

What's going wrong here? Ive tried upping the voltage, but im a bit clueless with ram settings...its pretty standard PC5300 ram...i've got 2x 1gb Samsung PC2-6400 800mhz ram arriving pretty soon (which should help I guess)

Basically, how can I get a better overclock (tried cpu voltage up to 1.5v), and how can I get around the bloody wireless card problem?

My FSB wall seems to be at 360, can't get it to boot into Windows higher then that ( I've even tried 1.6V :p ) :(

Isn't that a bit low, 360 FSB(x4=1440Mhz) on my motherboard. I've got PCI-E locked at 100Mhz(not auto)

Totally stable at 3.2Ghz 1.525v

It also wouldn't boot @ 8x400 so I guess it's not the chip but the FSB.

Tried running memtest ? theres a possibility it might be dodgy memory or something, pretty unlikely but easy to test for.

A little increase to the northbridge might help, pci-E is probably fine, although i like mine at 101 for some reason.

Try setting the multiplier to 6x in the bios and seeing what fsb speed you can start up with, that might give you a decent indication of whats holding you back.

Just thought Id post my overclock with this chip, puts my QX cooled by an Ultra-120 to shame in the temps department ;)

Runns like a dream at 3.0GHz dont want/need to push it any further.

For a £40 CPU to nearly have an 100% OC is madness :D

Update:
(Background - Could only overclock my e2140 on an Asus P5l-VM-1394 to 240mhz (1.92ghz, voltage or PCIe-Lock would not help it go further)

Tried the BSEL Mod 800-1033 on my e2140 (plus the Volt mod to 1.4 - which ive taken off since CPU has overclocked to the new speed at lower than 1.4v)

200-266 = 2128mhz = Fine on std voltage.

Hit an FSB Wall on my p5l-vm-1394 microATX board @ 325mhz = 2600mhz (2.6ghz)
Voltage at 1.325v, PCIe-Lock at 111.

Very chuffed for 20mins faffing about with electical aluminium tape. Will try the 800-1333 BSEL mod next :) (Plus evidence of either)

Incidentaly, why does the e2140 sometimes drop from x8 multiplier to x6...is this speedstep doing this? (im not at my home PC, will disabling speedstep stop this?)

Seems insane what clock you're getting on stock volts, I'd expect better from an E2140. And yeah disabling C1E/EIST will stop that from happening.

Put together a cheap upgrade for my friend with P35-DS3L and E2180, just had a quick go at ocing and this chip rocks!! Put 1.35V in BIOS and it's now running orthos at 3.2Ghz with stock cooling.

OK so I need to run it for a lot longer but this is just outrageous comparing to my E4300 which needs 1.52V just to get to 3.1Ghz!!

Am I seeing your cpu temp right there?

248 degrees?! Surely not

SW.
Temps are negative, either the software is unable to read the probe or the probe doesn't 'understand' the temps.

Either way, great overclock. :D

I picked up my e2180 the other day to replace my aging pentium D 930 based server. I decided to to give it a quick oc test, booted at 3ghz stock volts and I'm doing a quick prime before I push to 3.2+, on a freezer 7 pro, I'm more than impressed with the temps (~45c load, room temp idle with ss enabled) Compared to my quad and the 930d that would idle at stock around 35-40c and load at 50-60c under the same cooler!:D

So far so good. E2140 at 3Ghz (375 x 8, Core at 1.275v, mem at 2.2v) Bombs out of Orthos after about 5 mins, yet seems ok in Prime95 (temps on both cores not gone over 46 (yet) after a couple of hours Prime (Small FFT's)). Any way of checking what the error codes returned by Orthos actually mean? Google drew a blank.
