***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

that's because I've just reinstalled the system and didn't have time to run orthos. I did install core temp, everest and tat but not orthos yet. My room is about 18 - 20 degrees. And I live in The Netherlands, not the northpole ;P

Yo.

I got myself a cheap E2140 for £40.

It is running at 3080mhz. 8x385

I just can't get much faster. Will boot upto 8x395 but isn't pi stable.

It isn't the RAM as it is the uber OCZ shizzle and I have had it running at 1000mhz

My Voltage in CPU-Z is 1.384

This is an L2 revision and running on the stock cooler. :D

Yeah I know it is probably going to die but I don't care. I just bought it as a stop gap to Penryn. I just want to try and get as fast as possible. So you guys reckon more volts are needed or is that it for this chip?

Can I ask what sort of temps your getting with your current settings?

Cheers,

SW.

78-80 on one core and 74-76 on the other. Not sure if that is good or bad. I am new to this Intel stuff but it has been stable so far.

The stock heatsynch doesn't seem very secure. Simply held on with some pastic .

out of interest, are all the e2140/e2160 chips overclocking well or is just certain types?
Its rare to find one that wont clock to 3ghz from what ive seen.

78-80 on one core and 74-76 on the other
Owch ? If its a stop gap processor you can still buy a decent aftermarket cooler for it !

Is that under load? Make sure the heatsink is seated right, LGA775 has a terrible pin design but those temperatures are way too high at stock speeds on the stock cooler. Seat the heatsink outside of the case, and make sure the black pins are turned the opposite way; you'll know the pin is in right when you hear an audible click. Make sure the black pin goes through the white one.

Read all he says, its runing at 3ghz not stock at all, seems logical temperatures especially seeing as it isn't a G0 stepping.

I didn't have temperatures that high @ 3.2Ghz with Intel HSF. It's M0 for this chip btw, not G0 (that's Q6600)

This is weird, one in 3 or so times I boot my system up it just freezes at the first BIOS screen, sometimes before the "Geniune Intel E2160" etc and after. I know my overclock is stable because it's passed 8 hours of Orthos. Also, at 2.9ghz my system won't boot first time even at 1.38v but second it boots fine. This is weird.

8 hours orthos doesn't mean its perfect :). Anyway explain what you mean doesn't boot first time but second. Do you mean it turns off after trying to boot then boots correctly after or freezes on the first boot then if you reset it yourself it boots?

First time it freezes, I use the reset switch on my case and it boots.

Would this thread include the E2180 at all? If so, what temps would it get with a Arctic freezer 7 and what kind of clocks would i get on the P5E?
Almost impossible to answer that......what voltage you running it at and what speed, what cooling do you have, do you have one that clocks well or not, how warm an envionrment is the computer in, what case its in, what thermal paste is used, if the chips concave or not.

All of those will have an impact on the temperaures.
