Hope this is useful:

Gregeff - similar to my experience.

Once the computer boots into windows it’s stable but for some reason when I first turn the machine on it takes about half an hour to start up; even when the CPU settings are standard.
During the first few attempts the monitor doesn't receive a signal from the video card so is stuck in power save mode. Then it will hang on the post screen and after resetting it several times it'll move onto the loading Windows logo, where a further few more resets will get it into my Windows account.

Anyway here are my O/C settings

hey mate, there is a newer version out of CPU-z that will give better information for your CPU.

Wow, SDK does that happen everytime you boot up??!! Thats pretty bad. Mine only happens when i change something in the bios and it doesn't like it (generally random what it does and dosn't like)

Nice work on a 100% overclock though! I bet that felt good :)

Best motherboard and RAM combo?

These chips seem like great value for Money.

I am due an upgrade, its been 3 years since I last upgraded. I have a budget of £300 for a new mobo, cpu and memory. I was looking at the E6750 with a budget board and 2GB of RAM.

But I am now thinking of getting the E2160 and spending the extra money on a better board and hopefully 4GB of RAM. I can then upgrade to the 45nm chips later in the year.

Do you have any suggestions for some RAM(ideally 4GB) and a mobo that would be suitable to clock the E2160 to 3Ghz. My budget after buying the cpu would be £250.

Thanks.

Well first off, you may as well get the E2180 instead as it has a 7-10x multiplier which may be useful. (over the 6-9x of the E2160). You won't need anything like £250 for a board and ram. Just a P35 based board, most recommend the Gigabyte P35 DS3R at about £70, but after the problems I've had with mine i would say get something else.

As for ram, how about 2X2gb Geil PC6400 CAS4? (4x1Gb sticks) £65

That should see you the whole lot for £200!

This I would have thought will do over 3ghz if you get an M0 E2180, I would say you should get 8x400Mhz, 3.2Ghz. Although maybe with 4Gb ram you won't be able to reach quite that high a FSB but you have higher multipliers so you can still get say 356Mhz X 9 =3.2Ghz

ye best thing to get now:
E2180 / E2200 (when out in UK)
P35 board (which has the features you need)
2GB GeiL ULL
Tuniq Tower / Freezer 7 Pro / Scythe series?
8800 GT / GTS 512MB

Think that sums it up.

I just ordered an E2160 yesterday. After reading through this excellent thread I noticed that peeps were talking about the M0 stepping being the choice for overclocking and as that's my aim I thought I'd check which one I've ordered.

Turns out that it's an L2 one , so do you think I would still see 3ghz and over? I'm hoping that my water cooling will make it more achievable.

ga n650i sli ds4l

A bit of a noob here so apologies for any gaffs.

I've just ordered an e2140 from overclockers and a Gigabyte mobo to go with it.

I wanted to have the option of SLI down the line and I flat out will never buy ATI ever again so I opted for this.

i had seen a review of it's big brother here and it appeared to be an excellent 'clocker'.

Trouble is I cannot find any info on the DS4L anywhere, here or elsewhere. The DS4 would appear to hit 500+ FSB without modification and 540+ FSB with only minor tweakage which is incredible.

Overclockers must be selling these boards to someone...

Does anyone here have any experience of them at all?

Hi, hope you guys can help

I've got an E2160 running stable at 3Ghz, but i cant get it any higher. If i increase the FSB any more, it posts but wont boot into vista. Also the core voltage seems quite a bit higher than other guys here using the 2160?

Im guessing its because its the L2 revision? But i have to admit im a complete n00b, this is my first attempt at overclocking

Thanks in advance

Oh and its running on an XFX NF650i-Ultra with an arctic coolong freezer 7 pro
