***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

i've tried lowering the vcore, but then it wont post?? thanks for the suggestion, im out of ideas.

What are the temps like under load?

is there anyway you can check on the box to see if it's a m0 or l2 without opening it?

Doesn't it say on the box? Post what is on the box, I have an e2180 box to compare it with. You could always return it under distance selling regs, and then ask before you buy next time.

im at work at the mo, i'll check the box when i get home. As for temps, under orthos it gets to between 65-70c idles at 32c. CPUZ states its the L2, i take it the M0 runs on lower vcore? thanks for your help.

Finally got my Water cooling back in, so I'll see what I can take this E2160 to this evening :) I'm hoping for 3.4Ghz.

At the current 3Ghz it's running 49C full Orthos load, so i think there is some headroom yet :)

I haven't bought it yet, i was just wondering if there's a way i can phone a company and check their stock before i buy? what does your box say? can somebody post up a l2 box and m0 box?

That's quite a large difference in idle/load temps, what are you using for cooling? Worth a reseat of it? Have a look at the pattern the thermal grease makes on the cpu, that will show you it touches all the cpu or not.

I'll have a look this evening, but I get the feeling there could be enough info on the box. Certainly the e2180 I bought from OCuk last week is a M0 stepping, if that helps you at all.

A e2180 clock that I managed this evening:-

And a little bit of stability:-

e2180
P5K
2GB of Geil LL
450W Corsair PSU

Not stopping there..

Hope this is useful:

Hey mate – I've just nicked your settings (I’ve got a similar setup…)

I’ve been having the DS3 boot problem; the bios kicks off when I make any changes in the bios :o

Anyway, I tried your settings and things seem fine, I can boot into Windows etc. I’ve not tested it under load yet, I’ll probably do that later, in the meantime tho I’ve noticed that My Computer’s properties state my cpu as running at 3.37/8 GHz

TAT also reports the same, but the latest version of cpu-z gives the correct speed of 3 GHz? Can anyone tell me what's going on, is my machine safe to use?

Cheers,

SW.

Edit: Btw, Everest is also reporting the correct cpu speed...

yeh that is because some of the programs think you are using the maximum multimplier of 9x whereas you are actually using 8x :) All is fine, i'm glad the settings worked for you :)

Phew!

Fingers crossed, I've also fixed the 'repeat boot; defualt cpu bios settings' thing too? Didn't you say it fixed it for you? Bloody motherboard

I'm tempted to go for 400*8 now and get 3.2 GHz - have you tried any higher :)

SW.

yeh go for it! The only reason I had stopped there is because that was the FSB limit of my motherboard. Any higher and it was unstable :(

But you have a different motherboard so your limit could easily be higher :)
