*** The Official E3 2015 Thread ***

Yeah using USB but it's nice to have it all in one rather than having drives connected. It's something Sony have always done right but MS seem reluctant to do the same.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with the design but there must have been all of 10 minutes spent designing it.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion... it blends in more on a tv stand / av rack than any other console (as it's not a pointlessly angular design that serves no functional purpose), it's silent due to it's effective chassis design (rather than being a noisy little slab), the connectivity is best in class with hdmi passthrough, dual sound output from both hdmi + optical (and omg USB ports on the back!!).

To say it's been designed in 10 minutes because it's not a noisy, cluttered angular mess is ridiculous to the extreme.

Function over form everyday of the week.

Too soon for either of them to be announcing redesigned/slimmer models anyway, give it at least another year or so. I'll probably be in the market for an Xbox by that point, got no need for one right now though.

LOL someone's a little touchy about their box!!

Yeah a lot of thought must have gone into the 'box' which like you implied looks like everything else on the AV rack. Maybe you should get of your high horse and read my message as it was intended without the MS blinkers.

My point was (and you can't deny it) MS messed up the launch of the Xbone and their ideas behind it. They made it look like everything else because they wanted it to be a Media box that also played games. When they realised that no one was going to buy the AV box (based on the lack of pre-orders) and actually wanted a games console they had to reverse all of their ideas and finally market it as the games console people wanted which in a way is re-branding. Seeing they're doing all they can to get people back on side, what a better way to finish the re-brand than a new design..

I've personally got nothing against how it looks however I can't help but feel it would have looked a lot different had they wanted to make a games console that also did media and not a media box that also played games.

Why are you guys so weird about the Xbox? You take offence to pretty much anything you deem negative then proceed to take a dig at something PlayStation related. One of you goes as far as pretending he has a PS4.

Just try to not care so much. They are both big companies that really just want your money and in return I expect a service. You actually almost support them like you would a football/rugby team.

I prefer the Xbox approach to storage this time round, not being able to connect an external HDD to the PS4 is poor imo.

I would like both options to be available on both consoles. Like some others Im not a huge fan of having an external hdd hanging out while also taking away a USB port.

You seem to forget the issues with RROD from the 360, that probably played a large part in the design decisions for the XB1. They would have got crucified if RRODv2 happened to the XB! due to making it small/whatever.

this was always going to be your only option.

nobody is going to warranty a product to the extent microsoft do with the xbox one where the parts can be interchanged by end users after opening the thing up.

They have catered to those that want more storage, by allowing external storage to be used the same way as internal storage, matching or bettering the competition's functionality.

It meets the needs of all but the fussiest who don't want a USB hard drive. They do after all provide both front and rear USB ports so you could have a USB hard drive hidden round the back of your device whilst still having the front side one for charging stuff. And don't forget you still have another USB port on the rear when do you this, as you're only using 1 of the 3 ports, which will be enough USB ports for any user. Nobody needs 4 USB on a console.

Well I think you'll find we'll all end up with most of the original features, as people slowly catch on that Microsoft are actually innovating rather than being so safe ala Sony.

They did make a games console.... that also is pretty much the best media center available. Your comment higlights just how dumb the whole situation was, with the younger demographic not understanding anything beyond "it's the most powerful / plays games / looks all angular and cool". The fact that it plays all the same multi-platform games as the PS4 and the vast majority are designed with it in mind, rather than any extra effort going in to exploit the PS4's better GPU says it all.

RedStar, I think you'll find it's the strangely obsessive Sony lot in here that have the issue. They seem overly but-hurt that they're seeing a negligible advantage in game resolution/fps (with Witcher actually running smoother on X1 as an example) whilst losing out on all the additional features that the Xbox offers. Sony can't exploit the additional GPU power because very few developers are interested in spending time making the cross-platform games any better for PS4. Add to that the total lack of exclusives and it's not a great offering.

I've said before that owning both I can happily admit that the PS4 is the worse console overall. That's fine, that's my opinion, backed up with many justifications for saying so. What I cannot tolerate however is the very obvious Sony-fans claiming "omg X1 looks awful, can tell it's got less pixels!" and "my PS4 is silent", both of which are totally ridiculous and baseless. If I could understand the delusion of these posters beyond trying to justify their purchase that would be ok, but when questioned nobody ever has any counter-argument apart from the "higher resolution" endless waffle.

This E3 is going to show up Sony big time, as the gap in functionality (with Windows 10 coming) is only going to grow and they've already admitted that their exclusive line up pales into insignificance compared to Microsoft's.

Just how many USB ports do you need?

1) RROD was a result of using lead free solder I believe, not inadequate cooling. The additional cooling was a preventative measure to negate this.

2) It's not the number of ports, it's the location. Only having them on the front is daft. What's stopping Sony from putting an extra one on the back...
