***The Official E4300 Overclocking Thread***

Will an E4300 be ok on a DS4? Not sure what BIOS is on the DS4 but dont want to end up with a non poster because it needs flashing.

Should i just get an E6300 to be on the safe side?

The BIOS supplied with your board is the F10 BIOS and your E4300 should work fine... I'm about 95% certian

A DS4+E6300+PC6400 RAM pretty much guarantees you at least 2.8GHz or better depending on the RAM. They also don't lose much when you sell them and generally the price difference is about £3. I'm still buying E6400's when I need a cheaper processor than an E6600 just because of the higher multiplier and the known potential.

Just got my E4300 setup today (P5N-E, 2GB OCZ PC6400 R.2 XTC), Shame OCUK forgot to add the AS5! Hopefully they'll compensate/downgrade my Saturday delivery to Mon-Fri delivery due the mess up. :)

Looks to be the same as Big.Wayne.

I'll get clockin' as soon as paste arrives on Tuesday. Sigh. :(

Will be watching with interest, what cooler are you using?

Or, if its a retail E4300 and you are feeling impatiend, you can get clocking with the thermal pad thats included on the stock fan, just to see how far you can get the cpu on the stock hsf. ;)

I was going to use the stock till I could decide on a cooler, but it looks like i've got more time than I thought. I'm leaning towards a Scythe Infinity, but am tempted by the Tuniq. I'll make the decision tonight and buy it. OCUK haven't got back to my webnote, but depending on the outcome, I wonder if they'll add a Scythe Infinity to the delivery of AS5?

I'm in a bit of a bad mood due to the lack of AS5 TBH, so i'm not gonna push any more buttons till next week.

Both are very good, I've got the Scythe, and its not the easiest cooler to fit, but it can just about be done without removing the mobo.

Right, well I gave the stock cooler a go, so far using Coretemp:

200x9 = 1.8GHz (Everything Stock) - Orthos (1 hour run) = 46C max load

After the hour, I thought what the hell and did the following changes...

1) Installed 2 120mm (one on the NB/SB and one on top of the Intel stock cooler) :D

2) Changed vCore to 1.4, NB to 1.5, Mem to 2.2 & used the +100mv offset

3) Changed QFSB to 1200 (300FSB)

4) Changed RAM to 4-4-4-10 2T

300x9=2.7GHz - Orthos (25min run) = 68C max load

I'll get some screenies up for my next overclock... 3GHz! :D

I REALLY need AS5 and a bigger cooler.

Note: Using E4300, Stock Cooler, P5N-E, OCZ 2GB R2 XTC

Looks good, I get my E4300, P5N-E, OCZ 2GB R2 XTC and Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro on Tuesday. I'm hoping for 3.2GHz.

do u think that a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro will cool this chip ok ?
Reviews I've seen place it virtially as good as the best and it's much cheaper. I guess we'll find out.

Okay, no screenies yet as i'm still feeling out the setup.

9x Multiplier (4-4-4-12 800DDR)

600QFSB (200FSB) = 1.8GHz (stock) - Orthos (1 hour) fine
1334QFSB (334FSB) = 3.0GHz - Orthos (1 hour) fine
1424QFSB (356FSB) = 3.2GHz - failed Orthos
1468QFSB (367FSB) = 3.3GHz - failed Orthos
1512QFSB (378FSB) = 3.4GHz - boots, failed to enter Windows
1556QFSB (389FSB) = 3.5GHz - boots, failed to enter Windows
1600QFSB (400FSB) = 3.6GHz - failed to boot

8,7,6x Multipliers (4-4-4-12 800DDR)

1600QFSB (400FSB) = 3.2GHz/2.8GHz/2.4Ghz - all failed to boot

6x Multiplier (mem on auto)

1700QFSB (425FSB) = 2.55GHz - failed to boot
1800QFSB (450FSB) = 2.7GHz - failed to boot

As you can see I'm unable to get 400FSB (1600QFSB) to boot with even a 6x multiplier (2.4GHz) and with memory all on auto?

I'm currently running:

1334QFSB (334FSB) = 3.0GHz - currently running Orthos 47mins gone, 70C max load (3-3-3-10 667DDR)

Any ideas as to why I can't hit 400FSB?

I'm guessing it's overheating problems to why I can't hit 3.2GHz, but I can't understand why I can't hit 400x6?

Back to the overheating though, the stock CPU cooler and N/B sink are warm to touch, but the S/B is roastin and my finger doesn't last 2 seconds when firmly pressed against it. Active cooling with a two high CFM 120mm fans just doesn't seem to be good enough alone.

RAM is in both black slots and i'm using Small FFT tests.

Well that's it for the first day. It's by no means stable, but it's the best I can get so far due to only having one system to play with. Bit bummed I can't hit 400FSB with even a 6x multi, but i'm guessing I can hit 3.3GHz like Big.Wayne (as we have same stepping), with adequate CPU/Bridge cooling.

1334QFSB (334FSB) = 3.0GHz - currently running Orthos 1(Hr Fine), 71C max load (3-3-3-10 667DDR)

edit: Just stuck it on 1.325v (+100mv) overnight. First 15 minutes running fine and I took the 2x120mm loud fans out so I can get some shut eye. Temps are 65C max at the moment, so who knows, I may just stick with the stock cooler and 3GHz. £30 for CPU fan and £15-£25 for 2 heatsinks... £50 for 200MHz, no thanks. :D
