I was in during KickStarter and picked up the expansion last week but haven't really kept up with the game at all during Alpha and Beta.

Could anybody tell me if a Saitek Cyborg 5 Flight Stick would be ok for this?

Anyone know min specs? Will I be able to run it on the 29th?

Got a e6200 with a gtx260 iirc which is buried in a cupboard somewhere
Or my laptop which I can connect upto monitor but that's an i3 1.3Ghz dual core, GT540M

Minimum recommended hardware specification:

Direct X 11
Quad Core CPU ( 4 x 2Ghz is a reasonable minimum)
2 GB System RAM (more is always better)
DX 10 hardware GPU with 1GB video ram
Internet connection
Supported Operating Systems:

Windows 7.x
Windows 8.x
For the final game the minimum hardware specifications may be lower as further code optimisations are completed.

Rubbish.

In that case any of the cheap amd quad/hex cores any good, as they're like half the price off the intel I series. It's either that or find a q9550 which will forpt in current desktop. Which would be better? AMD or q9550.

I have seen mention of people using this with no issues in the forums

Rubbish

That is a direct cut and paste from the FAQ on their support site

I am actually getting a little annoyed at the 2nd to last combat mission. I don't know what I am doing wrong but I spend the whole time turning round as the enemy are constantly flying towards me and either just ramming me or overshooting so I have to turn around over and over!! (please insert swear words where you see fit :D)

Is it just a case of me being rubbish or?

After all my woes and tribulations a few weeks back getting totally disillusioned because I couldn't do the single player mission 3 I tried again over the w/e. Did it on the 2nd attempt. The difference being I used a proper monitor and not a TV, seems the TV has a large latency (~100ms)

Received my HOTAS X this morning and have to say I am really really pleased. Considering it is a cheap £40 stick, it feels fantastic. If I had to say something negative the only thing I can think of is I would like a couple more buttons/1 more hat switch thingy and the cable that connects the stick and throttle is a tiny bit too short.

Other than that it's an absolute bargain and I couldn't recommend it more! If like me you just wanted to try a stick but didn't want to pay for the more expensive ones, I would say this is perfect :)

I completely agree with your comments. I got one last week and it's a great stick for the money and makes a massive difference to ED. Your couple of minor criticisms are correct, but neither of them are deal breakers.

In relation to a wish for more buttons then I also use 'Voice Attack' recognition software which more than makes up for the need for more buttons. It costs just less than £5 but is well worth it in my opinion - you can try a free version for 21 days. It's really immersive being able to command your ship directly.

If you go to this thread on the Official Elite Forums then the bloke uses the same Thrustmaster stick with Voice Attack and there's a good video on there too. If you download his 'ED Voice Attack profile' it's a great basis to learn how to use the stick and Voice Attack combined:

^^ Here's a little video I did for some friends to try and show them (a) Elite, (b) Voice Attack, (c) EDTracker - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZEINHinsdc

I have dozens of buttons on my joystick of which I now use just a couple. And I don't even touch my keyboard except on rare occasions. ie: Voice Attack is excellent!
