So my F5 key is warning it's going to go on strike soon.

With the new launcher, do you just have to install it then log in to get the beta? Sorry im a bit confused!

Not relesed to beta yet. Soon. Hopefully soon.

You can left click your email address at the top of the launcher and "Check for Game Updates".

I'm sure it will be officially announced once it's released. And I'm sure 15 seconds before that it will be unofficially announced on their forums with people constantly retrying. And then it will all go down as todays biggest accidental DDOS.

Hi guys Any recommendations on controllers for this game as at the moment I'm using mouse and keyboard

Well a HOTAS style joystick is generally recommended, but availability of them throughout the UK is pretty scarse. Everyone wants to be playing Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen.
