I believe it is, but that's a very subjective question...
I played it for one hour at Alpha stage and felt it was so good, I immediately signed up for the Beta before dropping over £250 on Joysticks and HOTASes.

I've now got millions of credits and own about 10 different ships (excluding duplicates) which mostly have as many upgrades as I could find... and I'm still playing it, whenever I get the chance.
I haven't even tried smuggling, mining and half the other things yet, either!

Same here, bought it at beta then purchased a joystick after finding my 360 pad wasn't cutting it then went on to buy a HOTAS X then on to an X55 now. Also bought two different kinds of head tracking and VoiceAttack!

Will definitely be purchasing a VR headset for it when they're officially released.

I only manage to play it in little spurts but still enjoy it and there's only going to be more good stuff added in the future.

One thing I'd like to see them implement is a secondary account option so I can try my hand at pirating without sullying my reputation

Just had a reply from Support to my ticket the other week and my testing.

Edit: This was to for with the crash when going into hyperspace and down clocking GTX 980's

Hi,

Thanks for your patience while I've been getting back to you. Since you reported this issue, others have come in with the same problem (as you've noticed on the forums). I've added the solutions/workarounds you mentioned here, which should prove very helpful to our QA team so thank you for that.

Hopefully we'll find a permanent solution for this issue shortly.

hopefully they can resolve it in a patch soon :)

So is this game worth the money it asks?
I used to love most space games lie wing commander, iwar, Elite but never liked X or Eve.

I was one of those who purchsed on release.....spent a good couple of hundred hours playing it and had a lot of fun in the stage when I was still finding out what the game was all about...tried my hand at everything, but in the end, the most effective way to play the game is either by grinding doing trade runs, or grinding shooting down wanted NPCs. Other aspects of the game are either under developed, boring as hell (exploration), or as in the case of pVp piracy, totally untenable.

Thus, I haven't played it since about late Jan 2015. In summation, a total grindfest but in it's defense, the game does have great flight mechanics and a great control system that gets even better with a good flight stick, head tracking, voice attack etc.

Elite Dangerous is a game I will look at again in the future and see if Frontier have managed to build an actual game around a very decent space flight and combat engine.

Found an undiscovered Earth-like up at the very top of the galaxy, amongst the neutron stars, carbon stars, black holes and supernova remnants; must be lonely up there, but view down over the Milky Way is breath-taking!

Tempted to get into the game for the exploration aspect, I haven't played since it was released, bought in for the premium beta then only played it for a few days

What is the best ship for exploration? How does fuel work? Do you need a fuel scoop or do you just carry enough with you for an extended trip? What else do I need on the ship to survive and scan planets?

It'll be nice to have a target to work towards when grinding trade/missions at the start for credits.

Any ship can be used for exploration, there's a guy who has travelled 60K ly out in a sidewinder! The best ones are the ships which can be configured for very long range jumps however, since they dramatically cut down the amount of time required for longer journeys.

You won't get far without a fuel scoop, so fit the best one you can afford. Other than that all you need is a scanner (again, the best one you can afford) and if you can find the 250K for a detailed surface scanner it will pay for itself very quickly as it doubles your income for scans.

They recently upped exploration income by roughly double, so there is real money to be made now! There's never been a better time to become an explorer

TBH nice find, should be worth a few bob!
And exploring in a Python with it limited jump range! you must have plenty of patience :D

Many thanks, I'm 30K ly out from Sol at the moment and looking forward to seeing how this trip pays out once I get home!

I'm in an Anaconda configured for long range jumps (35 ly) though, so not quite as hardcore as you initially may have thought :p

Can anyone give me a decent kit-out to turn my Cobra Mk III from a trading ship into a combat-ready ship?

I've been trading so far and haven't fired a laser in anger but I quite fancy giving bounty hunting a go, the problem being I'm absolutely dross at dogfighting so I really want the best load-out guns-wise to make it as easy as possible!

Currently sitting in a conference call with my boss in the States and I have no idea what's going on.
All I can think about is how cool I'll look with my new X52 pro while I'm dressed up like Tom Cruise in Top Gun.......as I'm sitting in my office....with the staff outside wondering what I'm doing and why I'm wearing a pilot jump suite with aviator shades.

Guns wise I'd go for a C1&C2 pulse laser on one side and then on the other side C1&C2 multi-canon. I found that better for me than going for 2 of both the same class. How many credits do you have?

Would be mine for BH.

I've got a couple of million credits at the moment - not sure of the exact rest of my specs though!

Am I right in thinking that gimballed weapons are easier to use? Do they give you a "larger target" to aim at so to speak as opposed to the fixed lasers that go straight to your target reticle?

Correct. They're also easier to use when targeting specific components on ships.

So, after weeks of exploring and bounty hunting I have finally got my first ship going from my trusty sidewinder to an eagle :)

That's quite a mental image! :p

Grats, nothing quite like that first upgrade!

Lol. Was waiting on a comment along the lines of weeks to upgrade to an eagle..

Nah it just took me a few bounties. Got 33k on my second bounty, got lucky actually as I could have died if not for a few ships jumping in to help out.

Since I got it only been doing training missions and getting to know what's what. Starting to get it now :D

Kevin Costner is trolling me hard this afternoon, that's twice I've travelled a loooong way (like 300,000+ ls long) across a binary system to scan a potential Earth-like only to find one of his Waterworlds!

It took me a good while to make that first ~100K, after that the money starting coming in much faster; good thing about this game is that there's no penalty for playing at your own pace.
