Just thinking also with all these new Steam sales it could be a good sign that a few updates will still be free.

I think it was always the intention that updates like Wings and Power Play would be free. We're still only on around 17 of the 25 ships that were meant to be in the game so there should be a few more updates to include them. It's the big addons like planetary landing and leaving the ship which will be the paid additions, and any ships above the original 25.

New Steam players Struggling with the negative reviews after so liitle play.

Be good if any Community players that have been playing for months have a steam account pop in and chuck in the odd post to help them out. Granted some are just stupid like 0.8 hrs play “ I cant pilot the ship, this game is rubbish”

The learning curve is hard and that’s all part of Elites charm to me. I’m old school having played the original so I’d just enjoy the sights never mind anything else.

Annoys me that you're allowed to write a review for anything on Steam with less than 10 hours into it, ideally it should be 20+ before you can rate anything.

Worst one I've seen so far has been for Dimmdrive, where some people had literally 0.1hrs in and were praising it.. from what I've heard you probably couldn't even have configured it in that time.

I completely understand what you are saying. The issue with this approach is why would a genuine buyer who did not like the game and wanted to leave a review be forced to play it for 10 hours before being able to do so? Bogus paid (given free keys) users will still get around the 10 or 20 hour restriction by letting the game run that long.

In the end if a person buys a game solely on doing research via steam reviews then they are being a noob and got what's coming to them would you not say? Never trust a single source, always check multiple reviews if you really value your money or the potential emotional state you could end up in if the game turns out to be bad. Hell, maybe go watch some gameplay on YouTube? So many options, no excuses :)

Yeah youtube is usually where I go to research games, not reviewers but actually people playing it as that's the easiest way to see if it's fun and your type of game to start with!

Gas giants are just big planets. What you want are planets with rings. In the system map it will tell you in the info panel if the rings are metal rich. If they are, fly on over and drop into a resource extraction site. After a while wanted pirates will start showing up in a steady stream to kill. Good way to make money fast, but don't crash into the asteroids!

Conflict zones can be found in systems in civil war. You choose a side via the functions tab in your right panel and then start kicking ass. More high octane than extraction sites, but slightly less profitable

CHeers, how do I search for civil war systems, is there a search facility in the galaxy map?

Nope you check have to check the system factions manually for state: civil war.it can be done via the galaxy map if you can view system details.

Cheers for your responses folks. Im nearly up to a million credits in my Cobra! :)
(Far cry from others but hey Im playing this game probably once a week at the mo - wish it was more!).

Any recommendations what to do with the cash upgrades wise?

Generally the first thing you want is a decent frame shift drive so you can travel between systems in fewer jumps, but if you are doing a lot of combat it might be better to invest in a good shield generator, weapons and a shield cell bank, depending on whether your power plant is up to the job.

Nice little setup created this morning on HOTAS

Set a pov hat to button presses
Set pov up to highest threat
Set pov down to macro
Created macro as 6 button presses going UP through subsystems (as power plant always 6 up but can very down)

So now just one press to get at power plant.

Keep saving for a vulture if you going PVP in combat as this ship needs serious NURF its a flying shield tank that can out turn everthing except a Viper. I went back to other ships allday yesterday and nothing comes close.

Friendly fire doing my head in.

Fine, be careful, you may say, but darn it, am trying. It just takes one frigging security vessel flying between you and target, and suddenly, despite having only a couple of hundred fine, you are the spawn of satan and must die...

Started having fun in RESes, but this aspect is really getting on my nerves. Lost shed loads in bounty, with nearly 300K rebuy on top.

Just moved from Cobra to Vulture, and my cobra was built like a tank with some nice upgrades, but the weapon placement always felt a bit off. This vulture feels like its made of paper though.

And is it just me, or does everything feel slow? I thought it may have been the Cobra, but flying around in combat, it doesn't feel like things are moving very fast. And ships just overall don't feel very manoeuvrable. Not even the smaller "faster" ships.

3 ways to get faster turns

Boost turns
Flight assist off (even faster if you use thrusters)
Buy decent thrusters

Regards to Vulture hull not great but you don't need hull with its Shield setup, buy A rated shields and shield booster, size dependent on chosen weapons.

C or B rated thrusters nothing higher or lack power keep life support and scanner @ basic again power. Best gun setup for me Gimballed beam level 3 and a gimballed pulse level 3

Setup will still be over powered so lock cargo hatch and put Fuel scoop, Hyperdrive ect to 2 priority.

Finally don't buy shield cells as you wont need them and again draw to much power.

I haven't played elite for the last 3 months after an unfortunate incident with my tricked out ASP and not quite enough insurance.

Picked it up in the last few days and I'm back in love with it. Made my way up to the Vulture with C3 Beams and it's an absolute beast. Nothing touches it if flown correctly. It's very rare the shields get taken out and if they do the hull takes a LOT of punishment and it cheap to repair. Just need the A5 power plant and upgrade the FSD to finish it off.

I'm sure there must be an incoming nerf to it. :)

500 light years out and finding new systems no one has mapped before :D

Mind you I did just find one with 91 (!) astronomical bodies in it. That took AGES to fully map.

91.... sweet Mother.

Anyway: two questions:

1. How do you take a screen shot? I was sat between 2 stars in incredibly close orbit and it looked really smart from the outside view but I couldn't get a photo :(

2. Is there anyway of finding out the worth of your explorations before going back? I've done quite a few systems now and intend going out a 1000 ly (in a Cobra... it's a slog) but am thinking that it might be worth going back if I can afford a better ship already (although I kind of doubt it) 4MCr in the bank at the moment.

91.....
