Does anyone here have beta access to Powerplay? If so, has it perked the game up a bit?

I loved this game for about two months then *bam* I hit a wall and it suddenly became really monotonous (for me).

They might just as well allow credit selling services then I guess...

Thats a massive leap in logic based on nothing.

If I buy a part for my car, to replace another part for my car, I have the option to sell it (at a loss obviously it is, after all, second hand) throw it in the bin, or and here's the really clever part which will shock you at just how clever it is.

I can put that part in a box on a shelf and chose to use it on the car again, or if it fits, ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CAR.

Problem solved, massive fails of logic not required.

How it would work is, just like your other ships, you would put the parts in storage at the station you swapped the parts out on.

I should write this down, it's top quality stuff.

Just buy it from the developer and stop being cheap.
Why be rude, it's a reasonable enough question?

Woden - currently you can only purchase it from Steam or Frontier's own website, and the price is the same on both; I guess if you have some funds in your Steam wallet then you could always use them to subsidise the purchase?

Supposed to be saving for a deposit on a house, can't really justify £40 on a game lol. No spare steam funds.

I'll get it at somepoint, maybe in a sale or Christmas.

If it's a completely different car how does it fit? Oh damn... fail.

Utter drivel, stop being part of the entitled crowd and think about it for a few moments and without instantly going to 'whaaaaaa, it'll take me longer to get more credits' :o

Pathetic.

I think it's reasonable to say that you might store unused parts, even carry them on your ship if desired. We all know that it becomes a big grind as you move onto the big ships, and this does increase that grind.

Good it should be a grind to earn the biggest ships, it should also be a grind to maintain them as far as I am concerned, choices should have consequences and a financial one is fine by me. I'm totally chill thanks, it doesn't bother me in the least that I'll be paying more, the entitled crowd are frothing at the mouth on the other hand :D I'd rather not see the game populated with nothing but Anaconda's in six months time which is exactly what will happen without them taking some effort to buy and upkeep. Financial security and success should not be the norm, sadly it will be due to the mentality of the majority of today's gamers.

It has certainly perked the game up but its really for the guys who have money, what I mean is you don't make money from powerplay, ranking up in powerplay gives you more money bounty hunting.

8 Factions ATM

3 phases

Prep where you go out delivering propaganda
The fun stage WAR but next to impossible to get merit point ATM
Resupply where you go out rearming taken territories

Basically its zones where your War/Resupply/Propaganda points get tallied up at the end of a set time period against other players doing the same to your team. The Team with the highest points score at end of set period overthrows/Defends zone.

Finally less than 10KLY from Sol and making a beeline back. Got something like 2500 systems worth of data to sell from a very drunken stagger to and from SagA*.

Going to trade for a bit when I finally get back and upgrade to an Anaconda then get back out there again :) Might head for a random section of the rim this time (it'll take WAY less time to map a flipping route that's for sure :) )

Heh, I'm about 10k out GOING to SagA and I feel like I've scanned 2500 already!? Lol. Found 2 earth likes so far... Let us know how much you get in selling all that data!

I'm desperate to get into elite, but everytime i try i just find myself floating out in space with nothing to do, the only missions i can do are drop off cargo missions which are rare to be frank, and combat missions e.g. destroy pirates, traders etc i can never find my targets to destroy so the pay offs are poor and far between, the only way i've managed to make money is by killing a few wanted i've came across some had nice bounties 30-60k but other than that i've no clue what i should be doing.

If anyone fancies showing me the ropes or wants a wingman hit me up on steam.

Once i get the hang of it i'll throw you a bone when i'm a multi-billionaire ;)

Find a resource extraction site (RES) the pirates congregate there. You'll get much higher bounties if you get a good one. If possible, a gas giant with multiple RESs is great as you can jump between them if the pickings are light. You can make millions in a single session this way.

Also: hunting for pirates: you need to go to the system and look for the USS (unknown signal sources) to get them. Fly around and keep an eye on the contacts (1) screen, lock on and intercept. You are much more likely to meet the target or someone to point you on the way.

I proposed the following on the Elite Forum a while back:

One thing I have noticed about the ships is that some are meant to be crewed, but there is no crew.

I would propose that you are able to fill roles in the ship with staff that have an ongoing cost. The staff would provide enhancements for their position, such as:

Science Officer:
More detailed scans that provide a greater return
Quicker scans
Random 'hidden' objects

Engineer:
Longer jump range
More efficient jumps
Quicker FSD spool up

Navigator
Longer jump plots (greater than the present 1KLY)
Ability to implement some of the Nav requests being asked for

Now, these positions are Explorer specific but could easily be amended for other uses (Comms officer is able to negotiate better deals for example, or a weapons office improving weapon efficiency / damage

The range of posts is ship specific - the bigger ships have more postions
The quality of staff reflects their on-going costs. Do not make them cheap to hire / employ
The quality of returns is increased with the quality of staff.

This would add a huge extra dynamic to all exploration trips, and I can hear the cries now.... You have to be able to pay for the crew the whole time you are out. Or all accrued benefits are lost. This means, you can still be the Lone Wolf (TM) explorer if you wish. The Galactic Space Bum. Or.... you can crew the Starship Voyager and play out your Janeway fantasies (or is that just me?)

If you put in the time and effort on your own you can start to afford crews in your big ships. The bigger the ship the bigger crew and the greater the ongoing cost to run it.

This gives everyone another goal to aim for and keeps the Financial returns much more dynamic.

You hired crew in Frontier : Elite 2 as I recall and actually couldn't leave the station unless you had fully crewed your ship. I'm a little surprised they haven't implemented crews as of yet but I think there was mention of potentially having other players act as crew members in a future add on.

When you could swap out stuff with no fee it was fun because you could actually try and test things out to see what you like, or what was better/worse etc.
I cannot sell my old 780 back to OCUK at cost, then buy a Titan X just to try out, before returning it at same cost in order to buy a 980. I have to sell at 2nd hand prices and make up the rest for the new stuff, before also selling that at used prices.
The game should indeed be the same and I was actually surprised to find otherwise. Depreciation always used to be part of these games.

I think equipment storage is one of the future implementation things.
But certainly maintaining a big ship should be a grind - Go buy a private yacht for a few million and see what those cost just to keep in shape before you even take them out!

I want to have a crew of hot females running around my ship like in Mass Effect. :D

Yes and it was a hated concept same as it is now.

Again the real world anaolgy has zero place in the discussion, if it did you would be waiting Two weeks before you could fly the ship due to the Real life fitting of a nuclear reactor engine or something.
