The CEO of where I work is a massive fan (he actually has two BBC Micros in his office). He has pledged enough to get a planet named after the company.
Are you allowed to say what name it'll be?

Maybe if they throw in a bit extra they can talk Braben into making sure it's an industrial world which supplies the local area with computer components. :p
Don't see why not! I think if the human race ever colonises space, we could end up seeing some form of advertising out there e.g. Nestle Cluster, Mars Planet, Mars Galaxy, Milky Way... oh wait.

Which means those players (and their friends/guilds) likely know about the event before it happens and can prepare for it in advance. For example if they know medicine prices are going to crash in a system, they can be there ready to buy as soon as it happens and before others get the news and push prices back up.

28 players is to push through a decision is pretty much nothing. You just need to look at how the politics works in any big business or government to see how this is going to go.

I'll leave it here. However your "28 players is pretty much nothing" statement is rather out of context.
In this particular context 28 players is 51% - so no, I don't think easy.

I don't think Hades original concern was specifically that people would be able to manipulate the game for their own ends via the DDF but more that a bunch of nostalgic players who happen to have a load of money to throw at the game might not be the best people to be involved in influencing the design direction of the game (and seemingly various persistent elements post release).

You may have a large number of people who want to dumb the flying down and focus more on the intricacies of trading and pushing it into being more of an MMO, or you may have people intent on pushing it into as much of a space shuttle flight simulator as they possibly can.

I suppose it depends on your perspective and experience of how people tend to be in those situations as to whether you think that's a particularly concerning issue.

I really really dont think that it matters, Braben is no idiot and he is not going to say yes to every players idea no matter how good it sounds.

It will be thought through very carefully.

Personally i think the design thingy is a waste of money because Braben decides what goes in and what goes out of the game so peoples ideas wont mean anything.

There will also be plenty of good ideas coming from the official forum from regular posters, like i said its a waste of money.

Nothing I said was out of context. I don't believe a 28 person majority is a significant number when politics gets involved and people start banding together for mutual benefit. But there's no point arguing guessed at numbers anyway, this idea rubs me the wrong way regardless.

Ive seen players on a design team before. One instance was leaving a 50 cal gun just lying around a new map in the long grass, invisible except if you knew it was there.
It was in the game, lots used it to advantage then it was revised out.
I wouldnt presume corruption wont occur but it'll be tuned out later if its unbalancing

Has it been said how multiplayer will be laid out, I would be more concerned about bias to monetary upgrades after launch ie. partially precluding player skill. my presumption on forums is its ultimately an observation or ideas privilege

You are both ruining Elite day for me :D
Less than 6k to go before the big 1500 :)

I get people's concerns with the design forum, but I really think people are reading too much into it. I would imagine they will take on the views expressed, but have final decision on anything which effects gameplay. Let's wait and see before worrying!

Which takes you back full circle to the other point - what a complete waste of money if you have that little actual input into anything :p

Wait, the countdown clock hasn't finished. Don't say it out loud :D

I don't think it's a waste of money, but definitely a stretch that we shouldn't be too worried about missing out on. It's like anything, if you really are into in and want that little bit extra then I think people should go for it. Me, I'm happy to just be a part of it as I never played the original!

I pledged £50 in the end. I might up it later but I am a little short of money this month and that was the minimum spend to get me to the second beta.

Woohoo £1.5m passed :D

I was thinking of upping my pledge to £300 at one point but then i cant justify it as if your ideas are going ot be taken on board and implemented.

I do feel that the insider information thing is a concern though but like an above poster said we may be looking too much into it.

Ill ask Michael next time he is on which will probably later on tonight when KS ends and i get back from a nice italian meal and a stomach full of alcohol:D

OMG it made it £1.5mil with 6 hours left :D

I know a lot of people are worried about the influance that real players could have on the forum, but it could work in our favour aswell lets face it even the best game dev's introduce things from time to time that they think are really cool and make the game even better only to find affter it gose live that everyone playing the game is up in arms about how much it suxs and they hate it but by then it is allrdy to late.

This way with players involved in the discion making it could help stop something like that from happening.
